ooof. Seeing other videos of families kneeling in the duty free shops it makes me think of talking on google hangouts with my Fiance from the duty free shop while devouring 3 simits(kind of like bagels) after my 14 hour flight.

I’ve always told people that Istanbul is absolutely gorgeous and one of the coolest places I’ve been-shame to see this and all of the other attacks.

It’s been on my travel wish list for years but lately the political/social climate seems unstable so I’ve put off planning a trip there.

Turkey is in such a precarious position these days. I’m horrified and personally so sad about today’s attack.

I have a friend who is a semi activist in Istanbul. Based on her Facebook updates I’m so scared for them.

The worst thing here in Turkey is that they keep telling us we should keep on with our lives and not succumb to fear. I don’t understand how that is possible, how am i supposed to get up tomorrow morning and take the subway while knowing it’s such a strategic target for the terrorists.

No i don’t want to be paralyzed with fear, ofcourse i don’t want the terrorists to win but I also don’t want to die...

Radicalized fundamentalist RELIGION (note I said religion, not naming any specific one), continues to bring out the absolute worst in humanity. Yet we can’t stop it. :(

My baby sister was suppose to go to Turkey via the state dept NSLI-Y program. It was cancelled about 5 weeks ago and she’s now instead in Russia. She would have flown in to turkey today if this country program hadn’t been cancelled. Thank the universe for coincidences and small favors.

This airport has more security than any airport I've ever been through. We went through 3 checkpoints and we were only transferring flights, not even arriving off the street. Makes me wonder if all the airport security even prevents attacks.

I don’t know. That’s interesting. I was wondering about something similar. It’s hard to tell what is effective and what just makes you feel better. Was the security before entering the airport as well? I mean, can anyone walk into the public area near ticketing and pickup?

From what I understand, reading several news posts, it’s a very modern, brand new airport, and there are checkpoints as soon as you enter. The shooting seems to have occurred within the entrance checkpoint and the bombs outside the terminals.

I had the chance to visit Istanbul in 2012 and it was a wonderful trip. It is such a historical and important city and I am so sad to hear about this. The city was beautiful and covered in snow, the landmarks were stunning, and the people were very helpful to me and my mom. Also, the food there was AMAZING. This is heartbreaking.

I still get state dept alerts about Turkey, after a trip a few years ago. A few times now, I have received an alert and then a bombing occurred the next day. Gives me chills, and makes me sad.
