As dog lover, i feel like...this dog just is probably not enjoying life at this point? Oozing sore, tumor in the mouth, blind, incontinent, 17 years old, and for 3 years in a row its owner drags the poor thing to be put on display as the worlds ugliest dog?

Like, maybe its time to put the dog down and let it get some peace?

Yeah, I’m with you on this one. I didn’t realize this dog was so...not living life happily. My Roxy will be sixteen in two and a half months and I have already decided what I won’t do to keep her around. I want her to enjoy life. She has been deaf for a couple of years, which isn’t a big deal, but has recently lost the ability to walk. I put her in a walker for short bursts every day. She is not in pain, still eats like a horse, still barks when people come into her house, and still enjoys affection, so for now she’s ok. But if she were in pain and couldn’t enjoy life as a dog anymore, I would do the kind thing for her. They tell me that I’ll “just know” and I hope they’re right.

Hey! When Chinese Cresteds are properly groomed and taken care of they are very beautiful dogs.

I am not at all ok with this. It’s perfectly fine to have an ugly dog but the dog should not be crowned “ugliest dog” when it has medical issues that need to be addressed. The dog isn’t necessarily ugly, the dog is sick.

When it started, the contest really highlighted the ‘unadoptable’ shelter dogs which is a worthy cause as a lot of great animals are overlooked due to physical imperfections.

Now it seems to be about the most genetically disadvantaged and sick dog. Dragging a senior, blind, cancer patient in front of a crowd is unecessarily cruel.

I think the contest has turned into a circus side show and needs some health and safety rules going forward.

I heard about this on the radio. If a dog has an oozing sore, it should 1) be taken to a vet, and 2) have it bandaged, and 3) not be dragged to a contest.

Sending no snark and best wishes to SweePea and family — I am glad the money will be used for this sweetie’s care! I wish my recently departed doggie (13) had lived a lot longer — old dogs have a special place in my heart. I also hope this little one isn't suffering as much as some here fear :( It's hard to know when to say goodbye.

It isn’t hard to know... I don’t want to be over 100, blind, incontinent, oozing sores in my gums and in ugly old lady pageants.

If I wouldn’t want it done to me is the line.

She doesn’t look very happy, but maybe she’s just scared. I would be concerned that she even survive the surgery, 17 is pretty old to risk something like that, unless they can do it with a local anesthesia.

I really hope they aren’t keeping her around just to win this contest.

Yo, why does this dog have AN OOZING SORE??? That dog needs medical attention and a bandage. These people seem to love their dog so I don’t get why the sore has been allowed to get to that point.

Eh, I don’t think these dogs are ugly.

My 2nd favorite animal is a warthog if that gives you any perspective! I cannot say I’d love the oozing of the sores but if she’s a sweet dog otherwise, who cares? Don’t buy fancy blankets she might ruin ;).
