Don’t let anyone ever tell you your home is safer with a gun in it.

This is pretty much why my child will never be allowed to play in a house that has guns in it.

It would be horribly tragic if my ability to protect myself or my family were to be taken away, but that’s exactly what Democrats are determined to do by banning semi-automatic handguns.

    I have no words.

All responsible gun owners are responsible gun owners right up until they aren't. Weird how that works.

People missing the point will try to point out that she apparently was only using a pistol at the time, so likely not a type of gun that is currently being targeted by gun control advocates. But the real point is the disconnect between the dream—I will use this to protect my family!!!—and the reality—that it is far more likely that the gun you own will be used to harm yourself or your loved ones than used against some outside intruder.

jesus christo. sounds like her family needed protection alright—protection from her. can we all agree more guns is not the answer here? literally no one has suggested taking a way guns from people who have them legally. I realize this woman probably had her gun legally. but we can begin to curtail the prevalence of gun violence in US society by curtailing guns.

Congress has actually blocked the CDC and NIH from being able to study gun violence (even though 34000 Americans die per year).

For instance, if we had concrete data showing how dangerous having a gun in the home fewer people would be fooled into having them for “self defense”.

Republican lawmakers work for the NRA, not our well being. Criminal.

And if they are taken away, so what? Most people in the world live their entire lives without ever touching a firearm. I just don’t get the pressing need people have to own guns (I exclude rural people owning a rifle from that statement after seeing my cousin having to shoot a rabid fox to protect his dog).

Jesus christ. And this is the RESPONSIBLE gun owner that needs to defend her family? Her family needed to be protected from her. I do not know if gun control laws would have stopped this, but I do know it’s worth trying.

Does applying for a gun involve some kind of phsychological evaluation?

to conceal and carry yes. But for most gun permits no, and in my opinion it should.

ETA I only know about here in California. Other areas may defer.

A few things are pretty interesting with regard to her facebook:

1 - It is wide open and full of Bible stuff (classic Texas suburban blonde in my experience though)

2 - She appears to have been posting every few weeks at least but nothing since the end of May, so something clearly has been up with her this month

3 - Good lord, I found a picture of the daughters.

The Daily Mail (I know, I know) said this: “Authorities have been called to the home multiple times in the past, but it remains unclear why.”

I wonder if she had domestic abuse priors and that was why she was so concerned about the government taking her gun.

Looking at her Facebook, she was fully indoctrinated in the ol’ God, Gunz n’ Glory ideology that’s prevalent among the growing crop of white reactionary Southern murderers.

Or she was doing domestic abuse beforehand. Her statement sounds paranoid, we don’t know what was going on in that house at this time.

Edit: her Facebook is scary personal, tons of redflags (including how much is public) and no mention of a husband.

She really said this three months before killing her children in the street? I cannot wrap my brains around the mindset that guns are protective anyhow, but this is a textbook example of the huge gaping canyon between pro-gun rhetoric and pro-gun actions.

That would be the worst. Just from looking at the picture though, I could see she should not be a person to have a gun. Seriously those eyes, I’ve seen those eyes before and it’s never good.
