As a child, I never dared to look under my bed because I was afraid I would see someone stare back into my eyes. As an adult, I still don’t dare.

That’s why I pack all kinds of random shit under there, I tell everyone that it’s because I’m a slob, but really it’s so nobody can fit in there.

Gunter was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary, as well as lesser charges for violations of the restraining order and stalking.

Well maybe the problem is that stalking and violating a restraining order multiple times shouldn’t be lesser charges.

I don’t know, aggravated burglary is pretty bad. Stalking (in many states) doesn’t necessarily involve any kind of violence or even physical contact, whereas burglary (in many states) is breaking into someone’s home with the intent to commit a felony (like, for example, rape, kidnapping, or murder) therein. As long as both of them are crimes, I’m okay with treating burglary more seriously.

the woman called ADT Security to have a system installed. During the installation, she went into her bedroom to get her cellphone, and the phone was gone.

Who wants to spend the money not only to have the line, but to lay phones around the house incase she leaves one in the wrong room??

      That’s absurd.

20 years ago? Yeah, that’s all we had. But now? Why bother? It just creates the same situation you’re attempting to say she do to prevent it, and costs even more money on top of excessive wireless costs with carriers.

Why isn’t the punishment for breaking restraining orders so much more severe? This guy broke the fucking restraining order three times before this happened!

    Oh . . . right. Now I remember.

The article says she sought a restraining order, doesn’t say one was issued. If it was denied, I hope the woman hand delivers this news story to the judge that didn’t consider Gunter that much of a threat.

The linked article said he had three outstanding warrants for violating the protection order. Who knows why the police hadn’t arrested him...I guess they didn’t consider it a priority.

    Holy shit.

See, this is why I own 2 large breed dogs. They’re not aggressive (though they sound scary through the front door), but they’ll at least let me know when there’s a violent, stalker-y creep HIDING UNDER MY BED.

Big dogs are great security. It could be the sweetest, dopiest dog in the world but just the sight of a big dog will deter a lot of garden variety scumbags.

And they’re likely sweet to you because they care about you. If you were in danger they would act accordingly. My sisters dog probably weighs five pounds and loves me to death, but even he snapped at me when I jokingly hit her. Shocked everyone.

1.) I’m glad she shot him (I know that’s hypocritical as an empathetic eastern lib who hates guns. I don’t care.)

2.) this asshole looks like the new villain from The Purge:Election Year.

I am against guns, so I say this clearly in exasperation about how men — and especially exes with restraining orders, it seems — are fatal to women:

When a woman is granted a restraining order, she should be issued a sidearm, trained in its use, and given plenty of bullets. Then, by law, if she ever even so much as glimpses the man walking down the street or anywhere near her — and she can get off a clean shot without endangering others — she should take it, and shoot to kill. These men should live in fear that they even accidentally cross paths with the women they have threatened and likely physically harmed before.

I am also against people having guns, but I’m damn glad this woman had one and used it. Don’t want to think what would have happened if she didn’t.

I was really afraid of my ex breaking in to my apartment when I first moved out. One day, I was about to go to bed, and I realized I could hear snoring in my bedroom. I went to kitchen (quietly!) and grabbed a knife, then got my cell phone and turned on the flashlight function while I had the call to 911 typed in, ready to be connected. I very, very quietly sunk down to check under the bed and...nothing, but the snoring was louder. My closet door sticks, so I psyched myself up and pushed it open quickly to find...nothing. I checked every corner of the apartment and found nothing. Turns out my downstairs neighbor snores really loud, and goes to bed early. I’m so, so glad I didn’t find my ex under the bed. That poor woman.
