The conservatives that fear a global government would totally support it if Trump was its leader and the slogan was “Make the World White Again.”

Yes- the party constantly screaming about “TYRANNY” are the ones most likely to install one.

Per the opening of The Federalist Papers, Alexander Hamilton:

A torrent of angry and malignant passions will be let loose. To judge from the conduct of the opposite parties, we shall be led to conclude that they will mutually hope to evince the justness of their opinions, and to increase the number of their converts by the loudness of their declamations and the bitterness of their invectives. An enlightened zeal for the energy and efficiency of government will be stigmatized as the offspring of a temper fond of despotic power and hostile to the principles of liberty. An over-scrupulous jealousy of danger to the rights of the people, which is more commonly the fault of the head than of the heart, will be represented as mere pretense and artifice, the stale bait for popularity at the expense of the public good. It will be forgotten, on the one hand, that jealousy is the usual concomitant of love, and that the noble enthusiasm of liberty is apt to be infected with a spirit of narrow and illiberal distrust. On the other hand, it will be equally forgotten that the vigor of government is essential to the security of liberty; that, in the contemplation of a sound and well-informed judgment, their interest can never be separated; and that a dangerous ambition more often lurks behind the specious mask of zeal for the rights of the people than under the forbidden appearance of zeal for the firmness and efficiency of government. History will teach us that the former has been found a much more certain road to the introduction of despotism than the latter, and that of those men who have overturned the liberties of republics, the greatest number have begun their career by paying an obsequious court to the people; commencing demagogues, and ending tyrants.

So when the world economy collapses (again) and people start losing retirement savings (again) this will be an easy home run for Clinton. Trump likes shooting himself in the foot, just in very slow motion.

That assumes that Americans are rational thinkers who vote based on facts, evidence, and data. That’s not a fair assumption.

The economy probably won’t collapse that quick these next few days are key though. Now if France or another major European nation also pulls out then the whole thing will collapse.

I’ve voted in every national and state election I’ve been eligible for, but this will be the first time I’ll actively work for a campaign. Fuck me if I’m forced to tell my kids, which we eat MREs in our bunker, that I did nothing in 2016.

According to Politico, one reporter asked Trump if he’d discussed the issue with his foreign policy advisors at all, to which Trump responded, “I’ve been in touch with them, but there’s nothing to talk about.”

Makes sense. The world freezes except for wherever Trump happens to be.

I’d argue they’re not, if only they know (and this is assumption, opinion) that letting him run assures them a Clinton Presidency. She’s a better Republican than Trump is. Plenty of time to mend relationships with the broader GOP after the election.

Trump elaborated on exactly why he thinks “they should leave” this morning, though, saying,“They’re angry over borders. They’re angry over people coming into the country and taking over, and nobody even knows who they are. They’re angry about many, many things. They took back control of their country. It’s a great thing.”

This rhetoric that we on the left reject and dismiss actually strikes a chord with a huge number of people. That’s why Brexit happened; that’s why Trump is where he is; that’s why the parties are moving toward the right; that’s why a HRC victory this November isn’t as guaranteed as we would like it to be.

At some point the left has to address the issues that the Average Joe has instead of dismissing them as stupid or demonizing them in some way. We can’t just talk over their heads and expect to gain support. If we don’t address them, they’ll find a demagogue who will.

I’m not saying they’re right or always valid, but they exist. However, you can’t just say concern over refugees or immigration are immediately racism. That’s the kind of demonization we keep doing on the left.

I was trying to explain Brexit to my wife. Hope this helps, Ashley. Also, I hope you understand the ending of Ghostbusters.

Basically, David Cameron is Gozer the Gozerian. When David Cameron was campaigning, he told the voters to “choose and perish.” He promised voters the chance to essentially “choose their destructor.”

The level-headed brits (Venkman, Zedemore and Spengler) chose not to leave. The equivalent of Trump supporters (Trumpmumblywordshires?), Stantz in GB, chose the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man.

    Gozer dies.
