The last time the British economy really went in the tank, the UK produced the Clash, Joy Division, the Pogues, the Buzzcocks, the, Smiths, the Cure, Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, New Order, XTC, the Jam, Psychedelic Furs, Madness, The Specials, The Beat, Simply Red, Gang of Four and Public Image Ltd.

    It is not all bad.

If there are enough people in Britain willing to vote against their own economic interest in the name of xenophobic nationalism then there are enough people in the US to make the host of the Celebrity Apprentice the president. Take heed America.

I voted leave and I’m neither xenophobic nor nationalistic.

I’m a socialist who voted against the neo-liberal, undemocratic nightmare that is the EU and I know lots of people like me. I’m pro-immigration but anti-EU.

EURO PLUNGES... down more than 3%, coming close to parity with the dollar. (Cheap travel!). Doomsayers are already predicting the end of the Euro.

The Euro was lower in December, we had it at $1.06, iirc
It’s still at $1.11 or so this morning.

I love a weak euro, but I need a viable one too.

Brexit proves that yes, indeed an advanced, industrialized Western country can vote for racism and xenophobia! ‘Muricas, you’re up next!

Boo freaking hoo. There was a lot more to this than immigration, which I'm sure you're aware of. It's must easier to just shout RACIST!!! when people disagree with you though I guess...

Fun morning in the UK for me. I just told 27 people they were losing their jobs. Now I have to fly to Frankfurt where I’ll be trying to reassure some German people their jobs are not at risk too. Pretty much the rest of next week will be taken up sitting on planes or trains talking to people who are wondering if they will lose their jobs like our former British colleagues.

The worst part is our office was located in one of the bits of England that voted against this stupid idea. People walking around like they have shell shock. I don’t half of them understood the redundancy documents, and two of them just broke down in tears.

We in America should take note. This is what November looks like if Hillary keeps underestimating Trump and playing to the status quo. Never underestimate the power and undiluted racism of the ignored classes if they suddenly get a chance to lash out.

Tell that to my employer. I’m just the messenger (of doom) here. I know the upper echelons have been talking about what would happen post-vote for a while though. I don’t get the impression this is acting in haste by them, more like asset damage limitation. I think a lot changed today for at least 27 people, and I don’t think your attempt at talking it down would go down well with them.

Nigel Farage just said on national TV that the money UKIP said would go to fund the NHS if the UK voted to leave is actually “not guaranteed” to do so:

What a total and complete shitstorm. HQ told our England field office that their facility is shutting down and we are transitioning the office to Poland.

What is the English public thing? Every single trade treaty has to be renegotiated. Hundreds of thousands of workers have to leave England. On top of that hundreds of thousands of British workers now have to leave the EU. The entire tax situation for companies and people just got through into a wood chipper.

This is like if the idiots in Texas got their wish and succeeded from the US. Pretty much most large companies like mine are just going to leave England as the English domestic market is too small to deal with the repercussions of have a local workforce that cannot work in the EU.

That said...it is fascinating to watch this train wreck. Its not everyday that a major country commits political and economic suicide.

      Not workers… Foreigners!

London and the larger cities may be reasonably civilised, but head out of town and you’re basically entering Rock Ridge. Where the Johnsons have just notified Cameron that he was “without doubt, the leading asshole in the state”…

BTW; why move to Poland of all places?

I was making that comparison (Texas:US::Britain:EU) to my wife when she told me Brexit passed this morning. I was/am flabbergasted. As a Texan, I’ve sincerely pondered the effects of a Texas secession, and almost all of them are pretty terrible. It is shortsightedness exemplified. Really surprised that Britain went this way.
