How is she even alive, much less acting? Maybe she could be the Cryptkeeper in a rebooted Tales From the Crypt.

I don’t know. She looks a little too old for that role.

Maybe it could go to Blake Lively? She's gotten super old but like not Elizabeth Banks old!!

When I saw her in season 2 of Fargo I thought “Why are you here? You’re old for a woman in Hollywood"

Spider Man 2 is one of the greatest movies ever made, and I will play a best of 3 round of Uno against anyone who disagrees.

“Isn’t it about time someone saved your life Peter?” just because I am crying doesn’t mean I am crying.

I really think women in the real world have NO IDEA what women their own age are supposed to look like because of this. For example...

Carol and Daryl on The Walking Dead are played by actors basically the same age (Melissa McBride is 4 years older than Norman Reedus) and a bajillionty people have literally thought it was “gross” that earlier seasons attempted to suggest that they would be a good match because “She’s so much older than he is”

Olivia Wilde, at 23, was playing a top doctor in her field on House, which would be basically impossible unless her character was some kind of wunderkind, which she wasn’t particularly.

She was paired with Omar Epps’, 11 years her senior, and their age gap was never discussed, in large part, I would hypothesize, because people assumed they were just about the same age.

Wow, yeah I had no idea she was so young. Typically, she would have been just entering med school at that age, not working as a fellow.

I’m surprised more people haven’t complained about Amy Adams as Lois Lane, because she’s eight years older than Henry Cavill.

Am I awful in thinking that the issue is less the non-casting of Banks and the casting of Maguire? Peter Parker is a high-school senior. At no point in Spider-Man does Maguire look like anything other than an older dude with large eyes pretending to be a high schooler.

So yes, it’s ridiculous and hypocritical of them to cast Maguire when they won’t cast Banks, but it’s also just ridiculous of them to cast Maguire. Tom Holland in Captain America:Civil War is the first actor in any Spider-Man movie to actually look and feel like a youth grappling with his powers.

This. I’m fine with them casting an 18-yr old for a high school kid. And back then I was SUPER into Kristen Dunst. She was just really popular at the time. But Tobey Maguire always looked old. He was ‘young-looking’ for his age. Really wish Hollywood would stop trying to pass off old dudes as hot young things.

No, I completely agree. The criticism of not casting Banks makes no sense. Of course an 18-year-old is better suited to play a high school student. The criticism should be casting 27-year-old McGuire.

(Though, I can’t deny, I love those movies [the first two] and love him in the part even though he was clearly too old.)

And yet honestly being too old for the role didn’t stop them from casting Maguire....

    Edit:

    Or Andrew Garfield.

I’m glad Captin America finally got this one right, age wise at least.

Oh god the upside down kiss, I’ll never forget it. How did he not DROWN? Upside down in the rain with a mask over his nose? C’mon.

Also, Dunst was only EIGHTEEN when that came out?! She’s literally been around forever.

Her film debut was 2 years after I was born! I have no conscious memories from before Kirsten Dunst was acting.

Oh come on. She already looked a little too long in the tooth in that picture. Mary Jane Watson is a high school kid and rightly went to Kirsten Dunst who was the right age.

Tobey Maguire had that dumb look that made him able to play younger characters.

I was a tween when that movie came out and distinctly remember thinking Maguire was old-looking, but ok.

I’m sure her age was a part of the reason she didn’t get the role, but Dunst was already an established movie star and Banks’s biggest role at the time was tasting like a burger.

To be fair, whilst McGuire and Banks are the same age, Banks actually looked like an adult human being at the time. McGuire looked, and continues to look, like a strangely withered child.
