Why don’t they just circulate the real story of Dennis Hastert raping boys right here at home?

Uh, and is there the same amount of outrage over an “actual” rape of a mentally disabled boy by members of a high school football team?

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-m…

This ACTUALLY HAPPENED and people are being brought up on charges; So is the Syrian story a distraction from the rape of a young man of color, xenophobia, or a little of both?

I feel like, yes, there was... ? It made national headlines and I’ve seen follow-up stories.

But perhaps you are onto something with the motivation behind creating this fake story.

Our government thought it was a good idea to settle them in a state that white supremacists are so darn fond of? I realize that the cost of living is lower in places like Idaho (which is why they placed them there instead of NYC or Los Angeles or Boston) but maybe for their safety, a relatively low cost yet diverse state like North Carolina would have been slightly better?

White supremacists/anti-immigration nutters are in every state. What message does it send for the federal government to cave to them and stop settling people in their state? That renders these tactics successful.

Because these refugees would be a lot safer elsewhere, that’s why. They’d also have an easier time assimilating in a place like NYC, where they can see a multitude of other cultures, including their own (again, I do realize NYC is probably just too expensive). Instead, all they’ll encounter in Idaho is hostility and likely violence.

    *eyerolling so hard*

The only way this could have been troll-ier is if they had claimed it happened in a public restroom and the rapists pretended to be trans to get in.

And we know those kids must know a lot more than the kids in America of that age.

do they, though? do we “know” this?

american kids, for the most part, seem to be exposed to adult stuff (which is what i’m assuming was being alluded to in that quote above) at a younger and younger age.

Meanwhile isis is raping yazidi sex slaves , women and children, and pretty much committing genocide on their entire community while conservatives, liberals, democrats, republicans, Europe, USA, feminists, Bernie bros, Trump fanatics, Muslims, Christians, Jews, never again folks, etc. do nothing.

That’s not necessarily true. You could argue we aren’t doing enough, and I would agree. The Yazidis who have been liberated though owe it to the US coalition-backed SDF/YPG, the PKK, and the Peshmerga. I would like to see stronger support for those groups who are doing the hard work on the ground and more support and resources for the refugees who have escaped/been liberated, but I’m not sure what else could be done to help them at this point.

      From CNN yesterday testimony:

      http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/21/pol…

Nadia Murad, a Yazidi who escaped captivity in 2014, told the Senate Homeland Security committee that “the USA must act. We must terminate Daesh (ISIS) and all such terror.”

“Daesh will not give up their weapons unless we force them to give up their weapons,” she testified, with the assistance of a translator. “The Yazidi people cannot wait.”

Murad called on the U.S. and other countries “to establish a safe and protected zone for Iraqi and Syrian religious minorities,” which President Barack Obama has repeatedly rejected.

Speaking about the Middle East’s Christians, Yazidis, and other minorities, she warned that “if they are not protected they will be wiped out.”

“I was freed, but I do not (have) the feeling of the freedom because those who have committed these crimes have not been held accountable,” she said.

A UN report released last week estimated that ISIS holds about 3,500 slaves and that the terror group continues to subject women and children to sexual violence, particularly in the form of sexual slavery. The report said ISIS’ actions “may, in some instances, amount to war crimes, crimes against humanity, and possibly genocide.

Without question, the thing that scares me the most about the current political climate, not just in the US, is that so many people don’t actually care if the story is to be true or not. It simply doesn’t matter any more. Fiction that supports their narrative is just as good as the truth.

      Thanks I’ll investigate.

For some reason, I’m particularly depressed by all this today. I mean I’m sure it’s always been like this to an extent, but it seems like only recently people have begun to openly embrace or even boast about the fact that they don’t actually care any more.

Because lord knows white Christian children born in the US totally don’t commit crimes!

And the fact that the right wing sites have reported like 1 or 2 facts about the entire case correctly seems about right for them. God forbid they should be accurate!

What they want to know are names. They want to be able to harrass and possibly physically harm the right people. They are just pissed these kids get the same rights as their white kids and it pisses them off.Somehow they know brown kids are so different that minors do not deserve protection under the law that their kids would get.

My gosh Jezebel do some research. They were from the Sudan and Iraq and in the country less than 2 years. Police responded to lewd and lavacious conduct. Here is the audio of the police responding to the media on what is true and not true. So it is not like nothing happened.

My gosh MadnessReef, read the article before you comment. It explicitly states that they boys were from Sudan and Iraq, that they’ve probably been in the country for less than two years, and that they’re being held in detention because something did happen in that laundry room even if it wasn’t what right-wing “news” outlets are saying happened.

I don't get that there's no outrage that yes, this did actually happen. It's like, "well it was reported that the victim was run over by an SUV and I'm here to say it was ONLY A COROLLA, so this report is invalid!" These children (7, 9 and 14, I think?) pulled a 5-year-old little girl into a utility closet and urinated all over her (some reports say into her mouth). Let's be politically correct instead of appalled and disgusted that it happened at all.
