So many stories have referred to Prince’s “addiction” to pain killers. Thank you for using the term “dependence.” People with similar issues recognize this as a situation that could happen to anyone trying to manage chronic pain. I was so grateful when a friend posted this article on FB. The headline- Prince Did Not Die From Pain Pills. He Died From Chronic Pain.

Prince was not addicted to pain medication. Prince had a medical condition — chronic pain — which is criminally under-treated.

People were confused and not understanding, I get it. But this says otherwise:

“We knew it was only a matter of time; we had to get him down,” she told her NYTinterviewer. “We didn’t have anything on the plane to help him.”

They knew. They saw it, they knew, they ignored it, and weren’t prepared for it (we didn’t have anything to help him). They fucking knew and this entire interview is bullshit.

“We knew it was only a matter of time; we had to get him down,” she told herNYT interviewer. “We didn’t have anything on the plane to help him.”

She means that in this situation while on the plane, they knew his condition was serious and they needed to get him down on the ground and get help, because there was nothing on the plane that could. Not that they knew about his addiction and didn’t take any precautions.

I’ve been trained to administer naloxone. I’ve lost too many people to opioids and seen too many close calls. I have four kits sitting on my bookshelf not three feet away. I’m lucky my state allows for this. I’m hoping others follow suit. Chronic pain is a horrible thing, I know from experience. I’m lucky mine is moderate and I can manage with non-opioid pain relief. Many of those who can’t struggle with addiction.

Chronic pain is a very real thing. I agree, but you are speaking as a medical professional. This person who gave the interview isn’t. I, too, am a medical professional. When I hear “We didn’t have what would help him”, I know that they knew what would help but didn’t have it at hand. I hear it 10 times a week.

““His eyes fixed,” said Hill, and attributed the fact that she was looking at his face to subsequently recognize that something was amiss.”

    What does this sentence mean?

Probably that there was a lively conversation happening and everyone was caught up in what they were talking about/doing but she happened to be looking right at him when his eyes fixed and he lost consciousness. She then alerted the other passengers who tried to wake him but couldn't so they told the pilot.

the grammar and language in this article is atrocious.

“Months after her Prince’s death, Hill, who described their relationship as “very intense,” though did not comment on whether or not it was romantic in nature, is still in disbelief over her mentor’s passing.”

Wasn’t she working with Michael Jackson too right before he passed? She is like the cat at the hospital that comes and spends time with the patients shortly before they die. If she comes to sing backup for you, have your affairs settled!

“was the first to recognize that anything with the star was wrong”

Nope, I think we all knew way before this. (Sorry, I’m on phone so block quotes aren’t used)

I think what was meant is that she was the first to notice that he was overdosing on the flight, not the first to notice that he had drug dependencies in general.

I thought his dependence on opioid painkillers came as a surprise to many? That that particular flight was the first instance that the public heard that there might be problems?

Physically it was his hips. Emotionally I think it was the loss of his child and subsequent failure of his marriageto the mother because of it.

Chronic physical pain, Rx pain killers don't require a broken heart. But my arm chair therapist in me suspects the death of Vanity may have pushed him into using more meds to numb.
