I’m in the magazine world, and word through the grapevine was that Sardar Biglari bought Maxim cause he was rich and bored and thought it would be fun to attend parties with models and be a hot shot. No sane person adds a print magazine to their investment portfolio these days.

Seconded. If you talk to anyone who worked there, you will hear that Sardar Biglari is a complete trash person.

All I have to do is look at that balcony photograph to know that.

“...slightly dated (the biker jackets felt a tad ’80s to me)..”

Biker jackets were the hottest trend for three years on nearly every ready-to-wear runway at every price point. And 80s/90s looks have been a staple in fashion for nearly a decade, with no signs of ending.

If you don’t know about fashion, just don’t talk about it as if you do, you’ll weaken other, likely more valid, arguments you’re making about her tenure.

Doesn’t change the fact most 80's and 90's fashion is dated and bad, like most high fashion.

Biker jackets are like a navy blazer these days. Old-school, conservative standards.

I had a subscription to EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly). They shut down. My subscription, without notice or preference, was shifted to Maxim.

I really appreciated how much thought they put into the idea that anyone who had a gaming magazine subscription is automatically some stunted gamer mouth-breather dude, who would love lingerie shots of Mila Jovovich (FYI, the shots were stunning, but I would have preferred Oded Fehr, if you’re going to do an underwear shoot of Resident Evil stars).

Not to embrace stereotypes but the only thing I complained about when my EGM subscription went from that to Maxim was that there was no more EGM. But I had famous boobs in a magazine and I was in college, so *shrug*

I had that happen to me the first time I suscribed to a magazine. It was a movie magazine (Premiere, maybe? I’m don’t remember) and it folded, so my subscription was automatically shifted to US Weekly.

Apparently, if you like movies, you also like made-up rumours about actors’ private life. Bleh.

Came here just to say that the “Sabrina: Your Favorite Witch, Without a Stitch” cover is the creepiest thing I’ve seen all day.

Great article. Maxim was awesome up until a few years ago... All their witty writings and snarky articles are a thing of the past. Adios Maxim

Do you mean you were freelancing full time? Because to be be a full time freelancer at a single publication/media entity doesn't make a lot of sense.

It surprises me that someone who worked for Oz ended up doing Maxim. Oz, now that was a magazine.
