I’ve been more than skeptical of the idea that he’s trying to tank them, but, my god, he’s actually trying to take the party down with him. lol That he’s not self-funding in any real way is a big “Fuck You” to the GOP; there is no other explanation. Even in the likely case he’s not nearly as rich as he claims to be, hell, he could have thrown in $5 million dollars just for keeping up appearances. lol

He’s Bizarro Bernie. He only raises a small amount of money, but does it with just a couple of very large donations from rich business associates.

Lucky for him, his crack campaign staff has made sure he hasn’t done any damage to his brand with his presidential-like speeches, so his hotels and real estate developments will just continue to do well. I mean, it’s not like Trump Hotel bookings are down year over year or anything, am I right?

The other shoe that is liable to drop from all this is that they’ll find out his financial statement doesn’t list a bunch of vendors and suppliers he owes money to but isn’t planning to pay, hoping they won’t make a stink about getting stiffed.

And then, the odds are really increasing quickly that the Republican Party will find a way not to nominate him at the convention and will find some way to give it to Kasich or someone like that. You have to assume he'd take $100 million to just go away. His voters would be mad but what are they going to do, vote for Clinton? Seems unlikely.

Maybe not vote for Clinton, but a whole helluva lot of them would certainly sit home, and many of those who didn’t have an outlet in Johnson who is polling higher than he should be.

The idea that if the GOP manages to drop him that they become favored to win is crazy to me. There will be electoral consequences for screwing Trump. You don’t get to just wipe the slate clean a few months before an election and people be like “Yeah, that’s cool.”

And, in this case in particular where the presumptive nominee has barely raised any money, it’s not as if Kasich could catch up with Clinton in fundraising as Trump won’t have shit to transfer over and it’s not like Kasich is swimming in money.

No, they are screwed either way; they just have to figure out which decision will screw them down-ballot the least. The presidency is mostly out of reach, it’s about salvaging losses in the Congress.

You know that the Trumpers will just write his name in anyway. He’s tapped fully into that wellspring of spite in the Republican base, and if there’s ever a reason to burn the house down to make a point, it’s absolutely spite.

It is so PERFECT that one of the primary things which will take him down is lack of money.

They essentially elected him entirely on the argument “I have billions, therefore I am smart.” (He doesn’t have billions.)

He’s so incompetent he can’t even figure out how to get money when it would literally just take him asking.

It’s amazing. I see it as him being such a savvy ‘negotiator’ (cheapskate) that he can’t bring himself to not fuck over anyone he does business with, even if it costs him the election.

Somebody else mentioned they’d be interested to see his A/P. That isn’t listed in campaign filings I guess, but I’d love to what his short term payables look like and how many vendors he’s not paying. (I have a hunch it’s a lot.)

I'm beginning to worry his campaign will collapse too soon and allow the RNC to slip someone like Paul Ryan in and Rs will be so desperate for anyone else even trumpies will vote.

Please let it happen. It would be the true end of the Republican party. No chance many of his lunatic supporters would vote at all. It’s going to be a landslide for HRC already. The damage has been done. They’ve put their support behind him and can never live that down.

Naah. If his campaign collapses, he will run as an independent or just sit on the sidelines and stoke the fires of conspiracy - whoever goes second will inherit a deeply fractured party.

So if I’m connecting the dots here correctly, you’re saying that Trump’s scampaign is just a ruse to funnel money from conservative donors into his name branded empire? If so, I admire his restraint in not embezzling that last $1.3 million already!

It would be a brilliant scheme, except for the fact that Trump is apparently too lazy to call all of the gullible rubes the RNC served up to him.

Too pompous, not too lazy. But ya- he was probably always only in it to promote his brand, and seems to be growing bored with this whole democracy shtick.

I really think he doesn't want to win. He was just looking for publicity for his endeavors and never dreamt it would go this far. Every day he does or says something outrageous to make him lose but people eat it up. Now he's trying to starve the beast but that won't work either. What will he do next???

It occurred to me the other day that at some point, we are definitely going to hear him say the following: “I never really wanted to be president, because I wouldn’t make as much money as I do now.” This would be another lie, of course, but he would believe it's true.

It would be a way out that he thinks would make him look macho. There’s a saying “be careful what you wish for” that Bush senior used when he was interviewed after his presidential win - it scared the hell out of me.

$4 for the tacos, $90 as a tip to the young waitress who could barely mask her disgust through a thinly-veiled professional smile.

I think Republicans* are pretty much at peace with losing the presidency this time around, they’re just concerned now with minimizing their congressional losses.

    * I should say wealthy Republican donors.

I mean, the problem with that is that they got on his train because they at least thought he’d help them raise money for down-ballot races...which he is not doing. So, they are now doubly screwed.
