I am so FUCKING over this. Fucking take all the fucking guns and fucking burn them. My husband has hunting rifles. He doesn’t need them that bad. Fuck all this motherfucking bullshit. I have to take my damn Birkenstocks off at airport security, but fucking suspected terrorists can buy guns legally.

Fuck all these assholes. More people will die. They probably already have. And the blood is on the hands of the bought and paid for Republicans. FUUUUUCK YOU.

The United States would suffer a massive ecosystem collapse if we got rid of hunting weapons, and in turn people would starve in the aftermath. Including you.

See, we have a slight problem... we got rid of too many natural predators, and their populations cannot grow enough to compete with humans. And in order to allow their populations a chance to do so, we would have to give up all of our farmland. Which, again, means you starve.

So, either we keep the prey species, like deer, in check ourselves... or we allow their populations to run rampant and cause massive ecosystem damage, leading to several of them collapsing and, in turn, droughts and other problems for farmland... including all of the invading hungry deer trying to just not starve.

So, basically, you just requested to starve to death. Have a nice day.

Rifles for hunting could be checked out and checked back in with a hefty deposit. But no automatic or semi automatic allowed. Frankly, real hunters should use muskets or bows.

Why isn’t anyone pushing legislation to repeal the Dickey Amendment which bans federal funding for research on guns? In the current moment it seems like that could be more toxic to vote against than actual gun control and the research could go a long way toward shifting the conversation. Even Dickey says sponsoring it is one of his biggest regrets.

Why? Because not enough citizens are writing letters to their elected representatives on a recurring basis to let them know that it’s important.

But now that so many pro-gun-control legislators have the spot it seems like it could be a top-down battle. Why doesn't Murphy et al throw it into the mix? It seems like low-hanging fruit from a PR standpoint because it doesn't actually have any direct or near term bearing on gun access.

Can’t wait for election season so hopefully some of these paid-for votes can get booted out of office. I’m sure there will be more assholes to replace them, but one can dream right? And the views of the public majority are slowly but surely shifting further left - so maybe someday we’ll be able to get any sort of PERFECTLY REASONABLE gun law passed.

None of these proposals were even that far out there.......

How many lives will it take? Will the everyday school-shootings killing 1-5 people eventually add up to enough bodies to see government action? Or will it take more large-scale massacres? How large a scale is needed? 50 gay POC clearly wasn’t the right number - maybe 100 straight white people at once would get them to look into the matter?

Enough is enough. We shouldn’t need to lose anyone else to see minimal reforms. Everyone is all scared of Ebola and Zika virus, but here in the U.S. we’re dying at a faster rate from our own weapons.

Honestly, liberals need to start treating gun control like the right treats abortion, and chip away at the stranglehold chip by chip by chip relentlessly until we make headway. Perhaps we can have some sort of TRAP laws that make it impossible for gun sellers to stay open in some states and make it really hard to people to buy a gun.

The only silver lining to this is that the Republican Senators that voted these bills down that are up for reelection will (hopefully) suffer come election day. This is a really bad look for them.

My understanding is that was the actual point of forcing the vote. I don't think Murphy or any Dem actually thought their bills would pass.

The legislation Murphy and his co-writers introduced would have require background checks for everyone seeking to purchase a firearm, whether at a store, a gun show, or online. It was rejected, 44 to 56.

Okay, Second Amendment diehards, come at me, bros, explain the excuse the voting this one down.

      It’s really quite simple!

Requiring background checks means fewer people can buy guns. Fewer people buying guns means less money for gun manufacturers. The NRA opposes any legislation that would result in a single penny less profit for gun manufacturers. Republicans are terrified of doing anything the NRA opposes. Therefore Republicans will never support any legislation that will make it in any way harder for anyone, under any circumstances, to get their hands on a gun.

Better 10,000 dead children and daily terrorist attacks than one violent lunatic be stopped from lining the pockets of arms manufacturers.

Oh I know, the NRA represents gun manufacturers and gun sellers and profits. I just want to listen to the cry baby gun nut come up with a ridiculously entertaining fairytale about why they oppose back ground checks. My guess is something about the government and black helicopters.

Let’s just abandon gun control and focus on gun owner control. It’s time we embraced the Second Amendment fully:

-Each state is required to create a militia.

-All gun owners must register to serve in the militia of the state in which they are domiciled.

-Possession of a gun without concurrent membership, in good standing, in an official state militia is a felony.

-Militia members must marshal for one weekend every three months.

-During that weekend, members will submit all guns for inspection, receive intensive gun safety and proficiency training, do some organized group cardio, and perform community service.

-Dereliction of militia duties results in suspension and forfeit of all weapons until readmitted to militia service.

Folks who go through all that can go ahead and have guns.

I'm with you, but they are saying...But, but that isn’t what it means..... they are idiots and have no idea the historical context of our 2nd Amendment. I am starting to think people really are too uneducated to vote.

      What about 100 white men?

What about a lamaze class? You’ve got their precious life at conception “babies” right there. Maybe that would change their mind?

Forget it, I’m beginning to feel like anyone who is against gun control at this point has shit for brains.

    Of course!
If gun control advocates spent $40 million a year buying the votes of politicians, they would have voted the other way, but the NRA does, so they voted for the NRA.

Nothing will change till we curtail the ability to buy politicians and votes with bribes.

Yeah nothing demonstrates this more than the fact that 80 to 90 percent of Americans are in favor of these laws, yet they fail to pass. The democrats have tried to pass a constitutional amendment to limit campaign finance and money as speech, perhaps they can use this as an example of how not doing so fails the will of the American people.

In the last 2 election cycles (2014 and 2012) the NRA only contributed around 2 million (https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/summary.p...).

They aren’t buying votes through donations. What gives them power is their rabid membership. Whom they can and do mobilize to vote against candidates unfriendly to their aims.
