This is the first departure where the person is irreplaceable. The show will still be great, but Odom is incomparable.

One might even say he is inimitable, an original (if you will).

I dunno, "irreplaceable" is a hell of a strong word. IMHO this is going to be comparable to the Wicked situation. Remember how people freaked the fuck out over Idina and Kristin being OMG irreplaceable and how Wicked would be OMG ruined forever when they left? Maybe I'm just an optimist, but assuming this show sticks around (and let's face it, it will), imagine who the casts in five, 10, 15 years time could be.

In January I heard a short radio spot about a great Broadway play called Hamilton, and how true theatre nerds were loving it and it was predicted to go mainstream. I told my friend who lives in NY that when I visit I want to see Hamilton. She didn’t know what Hamilton is, so I explained, and she said “okay, whatever.” I can’t believe how much this show has blown up in just a few months... wish I had seen it with the original cast. :(

It was already mainstream in January. Are you talking about January of 2015? The soundtrack was released in September of last year... It sucks that you didn’t buy tickets buy you had a LOT of chances to do so...

Wow - “Fuck you, you could have seen it if you wanted to?”

It went to Broadway only late last summer, it might have been ‘mainstream’ in New York but tickets were still available in the winter, and it was suddenly in a lot of international press in December - January.

The two beat wasn't long enough, so they went with 4 beats and then 6.... they eventually decided to to back to 2 even though the laughter and applause lasted forever.

If he isn't in the filmed performance (which I know might not even be released to audiences for 10 years or whatever) then that is his choice but super disappointing. :(

Lin-Manual’s last day is also July 9 and he said he’d be involved in the taping, so I think Leslie is good!

He got what he wanted - a piece of the Hamilton pie so of course he’s leaving for ‘greener’ pastures.

Not at all. Most people only sign contracts for one year. This is what happens in every Broadway show. They all change casts within a year or two. When you win the Tony, why stay around? You can't win the Tony the following year.... Go do something else. It has happened for Beautiful, Hedwick, Once, and Kinky Boots. And nobody is hating on those guys.

He got what he wanted? Are you serious? He’s been with this show since before it ran off broadway. He’s done over 500 performances in the last year ALONE. He’s allowed to want a fucking break. He’s a HUGE part of show and is onstage almost the whole 2.5 hours singing and dancing.

A jazz album that he resisted the urge to plug in his Tony acceptance speech. Much respect for Odom using his thank yous to thank people, rather than promoting his other projects.

Ugh. I know this won’t be seen because I’m in the greys... but all of this Hamilton talk makes me so eye rollie... If you are a real musical theater fan you knew this was going to be a big thing before it was at the Public Theater. I saw it a year ago in previews and told everyone I knew to buy tickets (few listened). This whole Hamilton thing was a LONG time coming. I don’t have a lot of sympathy for non (regular) theater fans being upset that they can’t get tickets or can’t see it with the original cast. I have some tickets for September I plan on selling because I have tickets to see RBG the same night. So if anyone wants to purchase let me know. Also, the show is soooooo over rated. If you like the raps go listen to In The Heights or Bring It On.

Say it ain’t so! First Lin, then Phillipa, now Leslie... by the time I see it in December, I feel like none of the original cast will be around.

I wasn’t aware that was something a person could do
      I’m perplexed
Are they gonna keep on replacing whoever’s in charge?
      If so, who’s next?
There’s nobody else in their country who looms quite as large..

You’ll be fine. Time will tell. You will see the play you learned so well....

Actors rise, contracts fall, the show remains great through it all. In your seat, you will know, there’s still magic in the cast - even if the stars had to go. Da da da dat da dat da da da da ya da....

You’re not. The only group more exclusive than the ones that saw Hamilton before it was cool is the group that saw Hamilton and don’t think it’s the best musical ever. However, the exclusive group is in the minority of those familiar with the show, most people really enjoyed it.
