Honestly, the US didn’t deserve the Obamas. The crap we put them through was shameless, and they handled it with such poise and grace. Also, yay, National Parks!

Agree. I feel like he and his family deserve a huge apology from us. We should skywrite “Please forgive us” on the day he leaves DC.

There is no doubt in my mind that he IS going to be remembered as one of the best presidents we’ve had. Thank you, Mr. President.

I myself voted for Obama twice but nah.

He might crack Top 20 on strength of his inspiring personal story, the Osama capture, putting the kibosh on the pointless wars abroad and for remaining almost free of personal scandals in eight long years.

His taste in jeans makes me love him more. Although, he has upped his denim game a smidge.

He’s got to have a smidge of dork, or he’d be too blindingly cool to be real.

    Love them.

This is off topic but I am somewhat anxious this father’s day. On Thursday I received a letter from a tracing company. I’m supposed to contact the tracing company to see who their ‘client’ is. This could be about an old debt, but my credit is absolutely fine. The thing that has me climbing the walls anxious is the very idea that it could be from my kids’ dad.

He abandoned them over 10 years ago, have never paid me a penny, has not seen them. He was violently, emotional and financially abusive to me.

So yeah. Despite this being so long ago and me being remarried and finally out of that house (I wanted to stay put for a long time so that he could reach the children if he wanted to and so that I could be answerable to them) I am terrified.

Added to that my sister is angry with me because she says I haven’t spent enough time with her and her 6 month old baby (I left work and went to see them Friday, delaying getting home to my own kids. She is married and has a lovely house and lots of support but it is, it seems, not enough.) She’s been texting me even today. And I hope that my dad got his father’s day card. He hasn’t spoken to me in nearly 2 years.

I know that I need to take responsibility somehow for each of these situations. But I don’t know how. And I am so so tired of all of this shit and constantly feeling not good enough in every. area. of. my. life.

    Sorry. Vent over.

Yikes. I’m sorry. That’s all just too damn much at one time.

Mainly, your sister needs to chill the fuck out. Sounds like you’re being beyond awesome and she isn’t appreciating.

The Obamas are a class act, all four of them, and I maintain that Michelle is the classiest* First Lady since Jackie Kennedy. I will miss them sooooo much.

*Classy: beautiful, stylish, and most importantly, acting with grace and intelligence in all situations.

I can’t believe how quickly 8 (well almost 8) years have passed. I remember in GWB’s 2nd term there was concern that we were still at war in Iraq and Afghanistan and he’d try to weasel a 3rd term as a result, similar to what happened with FDR, except different presidents, different wars. Not gonna lie, I wish we could somehow keep President Obama for a 3rd term.

I love that they are visiting the national parks. They truly are for every one. But they are pretty darn white. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/12/opi...

Mr Lou ( non- white, not born in the U.S.) always comments that the parks we visit Have few other POC enjoying them. . We went to Death Valley for the super bloom and he was particularly struck by all the “rich old white people creeping around the desert” as we saw many older people with nice SUV’s parked and nice cameras zooming in for micro shots.

We also noted this sign defacement at a camp ground in CA. We pointed it out to the camp host and he went to replace it right away, and said he was really sorry he had not noticed it.

I always thought Obama and my dad were forehead twins, but he’s taken on my dad’s “gramps” style as well! Although my dad is a Blatino from the Midwest and thus wears a lot more patterned linen and a lot less undershirt.

P.S. That overshirt is buttoned up way too high, sir. You’re looking a little too gramps for your age.
