If it’s true he was a closeted gay man, it makes all of this somehow even more infuriating. The LGBTQ+ community would have helped to accept him. Instead he turned to ISIS bullshit, blamed religion and wanted attention.

The problem is his own community drove him underground and made him hate/envy what he saw at Pulse. If he had been open-minded enough to look towards the Gay community for support he likely would never have even contemplated shooting up the place.

By “own community,” you mean the US in general, right?

There are still plenty of pastors calling for the death of gays. Presidential candidates regularly attend conferences where gays are called pedophiles, against god, unnatural, etc. and there have been literally thousands of bills presented to limit gay rights. Hell, it’s only been 13 years since being gay was no longer a crime, thanks to those pesky liberal, activist judges.

Now, I won’t pretend that conservative Muslim communities are welcoming gays with open arms. In fact, they’re often much worse. But this recent sympathy for gays from Republicans is the equivalent of, ‘I only hit her with an open hand, I’m not a monster like those Muslims.’

“You kill innocent women and children by doing us airstrikes.”

To be fair, he’s technically not *wrong* here...

I’m not saying this means he’s justified, it just means he’s not a liar.

Actually, it seems like this might be one case where he did hate them for their freedom. Their freedom to be themselves, which he did not feel like he had, what with his father being the rightful ruler of Afghanistan and all. Still, the answer is not to rid ourselves of our freedoms. Just like free speech, the answer is more freedoms. No homo, but I think I’m going to hit a gay bar tonight to exercise my freedom.

This guy was no zealot. He was a sexually conflicted psychopath who stated his allegence to ISIS as a last ditch effort to be remembered for something in his fucking pathetic life.

He can be all those things. Considering he as raised by a father who believes basically the same shit ISIS spouts off, and had a wife who might have been complicit in her own way, and could very well be charged, it should be safe to say that radical islamic beliefs were a part of his identity.

I suppose. People who adhere to a religion of any sort kinda freak me out. That in itself seems like a mental illness.

So if he searched those terms in FB, and came up with all those posts from people hiding in the bathroom, there is a realistic scenario where he found out people were alive there via FB and (as noted in the chronology) he went back into the other bathroom to shoot up the stalls. Mind blown.

Are fb trends a thing? I’ve only ever heard of trending on twitter. But I’ve all but given up on fb and am mostly on twitter these days. Frustrating family and high school friends’ opinions vs. strangers who you totally align with. I’ll take the latter.
