    Potential big surprises:

All of the cars will be clown cars, with dozens of people stuffed inside

In-transit reruns of TV shows on VCR! Remington Steele, anyone?

Snacks! Whatever you find under the seat is yours!

The drivers will be mandated to make ‘vroom vroom’ noises while driving!

Safe drivers who are well paid, screened, and trained to the fullest extent humanly possible!

People have been saying this about Amazon for 15 fucking years. As long as silly investors are willing to subsidize my drunken rides home, I’ll abuse it the way I abuse Prime shipping.

You know, how the fuck is it ride “sharing”? Is that like “homicide” bombers? You get in, the driver takes you to your destination and you pay for it. Where does the “sharing” come in except in the mind of the 23 year marketing idiot who came up with the phrase?

I prefer to think of it as more of a very short term AirBnB for body parts.

No. Monopoly pricing. Predatory pricing is illegal if the intent is to achieve monopoly power.

Lyft was going to be the most prominent competitor, but they’ve been reduced to “Best Choice Canned Vegetables” status.

Yup.... the main reason Uber has flourished so well is the complete and utter failure that is the cab industry.

And people not in major cities like NYC don’t get that. Same goes for public transportation (which I wholeheartedly support).

I remember when selling at a loss until you bankrupt the competition, so that you can gain a monopoly, was an illegal unfair trade practice. Oh well, times change. I also remember when "too big to fail" was pretty much the definition of the point at which a business became an illegal monopoly, it was like the test. Ah, the good old days.

Does anyone actually NEED Uber? Like, has anyone’s life been adjusted to the point that something that didn’t exist 5 years ago is now a necessity? Because if not, then the “big surprise” will be when everyone tells Uber to fuck off when they try to raise rates.

It depends on whether they’ve managed to drive the cab companies out of business. Sometimes you do need a cab.
