Cooper was relentless! Good for him! Bondi knows the internet never forgets, right?

    http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/davidbadash/at…

In 2014 Bondi had argued that recognizing out-of-state legal civil same-sex marriages would “impose significant public harm” and play havoc with existing marriage laws in the Sunshine State, a claim that two years later has been proven wholly false.

Bondi also suggested that same-sex couples don’t create stable or enduring homes.

She did all this while on her THIRD marriage.

“They are citizens just like anyone else, of course.”

No, and that is exactly the problem. Turns out some of the survivors are quite possibly undocumented and now they are scared of participating in the legal process that would actually grant them the justice they deserve because they fear the repercussions for them and their families. It’s not as simple as saying “they are citizens”. They are victims of hate crime who are now terrified of facing even further hatred.

On the bright side, every undocumented person there is almost certainly eligible for a U Visa, and can hopefully now have a path to lawful status because of that (unless they’re ineligible for other reasons).

Not sure whether or not you’re being ironic, but isn’t a “basic” human right one that isn’t “written?”

      (3) The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State.

The correct answer is to build Trump’s wall across the Florida border and declare the state as a lost cause.

It is time for us to stop tolerating this creeping hypocrisy, that allows people to run for president on the backs of the brutalized. No, you do not get to pretend that you care about the dead today, when you spent months whipping your constituents into frothy hatred. No, you do not get to salve these horrors with “thoughts and prayers” when you consort with the people who say exactly the same things as those mullahs you claim to fear. No, we will hold you accountable for those moments when you thought you could squeeze a few more votes out of the grandmothers and uncles you frightened, when you told them that trans people wanted to attack your daughters in the bathroom.

I fucking hate politicians who say “thoughts and prayers” in the wake of preventable tragedies.

We’re not paying you to pray, dipshits. We’re paying you to pass laws. Do that.

Pam Bondi is a known douchebag here in FL. She “investigated” for profit schools in Florida over deceptive marketing allegations and let them all off with a slap on the wrist. This lady is fucking terrible and is a good example of the Rick Scott “fuck all y’all” school of government.

On one end is Omar Mateen, on the other end are gay people themselves.

It sounds considerably more complicated than that. I’m not sure that you can position Omar Mateen in opposition to ‘gay people themselves,’ because of his own conflicted identity and sexuality.

I’m not sure the evidence supports that conclusion yet (although I think you’re absolutely right about it). Either way, you make a good point; it probably would have been better to say something like, “On one end is what Omar Mateen did,” or even “acts of violence against LGBT people.”

Point one: as much as I think Bondi is a turd of a human, she’s right that the “harm” described by the state in their brief did not refer specifically to that caused by same-sex marriage, but that “harm” to Floridian voters such that they might not be able to amend their state constitution to continue disenfranchising people in the future. It, like most legal reporting by most people anywhere ever, isn’t quite as breathlessly evil as it’s portrayed. More so a functional, technocratic evil.

Point two: if the one thing separating you from Actual Literal ISIS is “but then they take it a step further and kill people,” that’s uh, that’s bad.

I’m willing to bet some money that if we went into those briefs, we’d find more than just the harm of being denied the ability to hate other people via our state Constitution. They usually put some reasoning in there, and it tend to be the same old Focus on the Family BS. So, its more evil, disguised as technocratic evil.

Yes, but her response - in which she poorly tried to express something akin to what you just did - was terrible. I was delighted that she had to fall back on poorly-articulated talking points that even if expressed well wouldn’t have absolved her (because we all know she had the option to simply not defend that particular hideous law - as was the case in California). I loved Cooper putting her on the defensive and not letting her off. Nobody ever said being on the wrong side of history would be comfy.
