    I mean...

Let’s be fair. She was drunk and unconscious. How was he supposed to know she WOULDN’T say yes to sex with three of his teammates. Who is to say that she wouldn’t have wanted to be penetrated forcefully with objects while asleep. There was a good chance she would have woken and sued him for NOT going for it. It was a 50/50 chance and he took the shot. He’s a RISK taker. It’s what makes him such a fine athlete.

Plus-He was so far from home. And his culture (California) just has very different rules and laws. Here in LA its considered rude NOT to repeatedly rape any woman who falls asleep. Here it’s sort of like putting a hand in warm water at a sleepover or putting shaving cream on a hand and tickling their nose with a feather! It’s just a very different place. A girl falls asleep here and everyone (young and old) grabs a variety of vaginal shaped objects and we go to town! You should see how we all laugh!

And have we even discussed that he took a corrupting intro to film class???? Now it can be confusing at first to know when you’re directing say, a short film about a vampire and when you’re directing a real life rape. I’ve been there and honestly it’s like what even is reality? Does the top fall or stay spinning? Hollywood values are confusing. Should he be punished for being the most creative guy in the room? Look. He saw how they could violate her more effectively and he HAD to jump in and help. Do you know how pedestrian the rape would have been otherwise? You wouldn’t even enjoy watching it.

So really-he’s a good guy. Are we really going to take away 20 years of his life for one 20 minute mistake?

How bad is it that I’m just happy his entire nuclear family hasn’t written letters of support that could potentially be flooded onto the internet?

Because I am so fucking sick of seeing those people get a platform from which to add to the victim’s experience of abuse.

verdicts were overturned after it was discovered that the foreman of the jury had been a victim of statutory rape

Hey guys? You know you are going to have a hard time filling your jury box if you discount every woman who has ever been sexually assaulted right?

I’m guessing you really don’t care about that anyway and would have preferred to have a jury of all dude bros.

Apparently it was a man who didn’t consider himself a victim, and so didn’t mention it.

Which is still fucking ridiculous, if you ask me. I feel so bad for the woman who has to go through this trial again.

“Vandenburg’s defense attorneys depict him as a confused kid, thousands of miles away from his California home”.

This quote just enrages me. This guy was a vetted athlete who had his pick of top tier SEC schools and he chose Vanderbilt. “Confused...........Thousands of miles away” like he was forced to leave rural China or something in search of a better life to feed his family and got caught up in the Triad. There are thousands upon thousands of college kids who are “thousands of miles away” and they manage to not rape.

Casslebear Rawr said it best: This isn’t an athlete that lost his way, this is a criminal who can play (insert sport). Fucking word.

And Brock Turner was a confused kid who shouldn’t be punished for committing rape because he was in California, far away from the Midwest.

Who knew that rape doesn’t count as long as you leave your home state to do it?

It’s the lawyer’s job to get their client off or at least minimize the sentence. It’s important they do their job well because this guy could claim at a future point that he didn't get adequate legal representation and the victim would once again have to relive everything. Yes the argument is dumb but it’s not like there are any reasonably intelligent arguments to be made. The evidence is too damning.

Also, from what I gleaned from the local coverage the past two days, it does appear as though the rich white student had his trial separated from the scholarship black student in hopes of cooking up a pretty ridiculous defense. Supposedly the attorneys for Vandenburg are claiming that he was taking the victim back to his room because she was too intoxicated and he was protecting her by providing her with some place to safely rest. It was the other guys who ended up basically bullying him into allowing them to assault her.

    So.

    Yeah.

...excuse me while I pop my eyeballs back in... okay... ready to go

So drinking makes a woman culpable but makes a man not culpable?

And having frat boys shove things in your vagina while you are unconscious is having sex?

    ...eyeballs popped out again...

This poor woman! All she did was go to her own home with her actual boyfriend at the end of a night. Her crime is that she got locked out of her home! This is just horrifying!

Can you imagine?! You go home after a night out. Oops, forgot your key! It’s okay, you can just crash at your bf’s place! Pass out, in the safety of bf’s car, while he is taking you to his place. . . Get gang raped by bf’s friends and housemates. What!!! That’s not how society works! That’s not what happens when you forget your key and are in a safe place. Just, no!

    Fuck!

EVEN worse, the poor victim didn’t know what happened to her until a few days later. Vanden-douche gaslighted her into believing he was the sweetest bf and took care of her.

Hang on, so the fact there was a rape survivor on the jury somehow invalidates the entire jury’s verdict?

Well, I’m sure there have NEVER been rapists or rape apologists on a jury before. They’d be bound to declare it, wouldn’t they? /s

Jurors are typically asked to disclose if they or anyone close to them have been involved, in any capacity, with a situation similar to the one at trial. You can disclose it and still be chosen for the jury, but if you don’t disclose it, it appears negatively as a bias by one juror (rape victim didn’t disclose rape so that she could get on jury to make sure a different victim got justice; alleged rapist didn’t disclose rape charges that he was acquitted of so that he could assist another alleged rapist with getting acquitted). Jury bias is legitimate grounds for overturning a conviction.

Apparently it was statutory rape, he was 16 and his boyfriend was 23. He didn’t consider himself a victim which is why he didn’t disclose it. The relationship was consensual but when he told his parents about it they decided to press charges.

Which is why we need to immediately remove men from all powerful positions. Clearly they are too fragile to handle the responsibility.

“Chad may not be ok with that.”
“What if we fuck her without using our dicks?”
