I fucking dare the NRA assholes to say the problem is people in Texas don’t have free enough access to guns. I FUCKING DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU.

It’s OK, guys, this is Texas, not one of those fruity “no gun zones.” As the NRA tells us again and again (and again and again and again), the myriad good guys with guns will dispatch the bad guy neatly and instantaneously, without harming a hair on a single bystander’s head. That’s just the way it works!

The good guys that only have to take a four hour class and can then buy guns without any background check. This state/county are terrifying.

Saw this on Facebook right before I read the Jezebel headline:

I stand behind you in line at the store with a smile on my face...and a gun under my shirt and you are none the wiser, yet you are safer for having me next to you. I won’t shoot you. My gun won’t pull it’s own trigger. It is securely holstered with the trigger covered. It can’t just go off. However, rest assured that if a lunatic walks into the grocery store and pulls out a rifle, I will draw my pistol and protect myself and my family and therefore protect you and your family. I may get shot before I can pull the trigger...but, I won’t die in a helpless blubbering heap on the floor begging for my life or my child’s life. No, if I die it will be in a pile of spent shell casings. I won’t be that victim. I choose not to be. As for you, I don’t ask you to carry a gun. If you are not comfortable, then please don’t. But I would like to keep my right to choose to not be a helpless victim. There is evil in the world and if evil has a gun, I want one too... Copy and paste if you believe this too....

So like, don’t worry about us, y’all. We actually want this kind of stuff to happen.

I was 11 years old when Columbine happened. It was shocking, it was sad, it was enraging - I felt it all. I’m 28 now, and I no longer have feelings about shootings. I feel nothing. They’ve been a part of my life for too long. I’ve had 17 years of the news being peppered with phrases like “mass shooting”, “armed gunman”, “hostages taken”, “assault rifle”, “3 dead”, “10 dead”, “24 dead”, “50 dead”....

I don’t really remember a time before I felt this nothingness. This hopeless despair that this is just life here. I’ve written emails/letters to my state representatives, signed petitions, gone to vigils...it doesn’t change.

I’m a very emotional person (I mean, I even cried at Star Wars...the phantom menace) which is why this empty void inside me feels strange. I’m sorry to be so bleak, but does anyone else feel this? Like when you think about these shootings, these endless shootings, a light inside you goes out and you cannot turn it back on.

I’ve found I had the opposite experience. I remember constantly hearing about shootings on the news as a child, and though the major ones made me sad, I remember thinking that this was just how it was. Adults got angry, and sometimes shot each other up. It wasn’t till adolescence when I started reading more, paying more attention, and gaining other perspectives like “oh wait. this doesn’t happen in other developed countries every week? Every day?”. As an adult it makes me angrier and angrier every time, because now I know it doesn’t have to be this way. We actively choose this and it’s infuriating.

It’s a sad truth that things have less of an affect when they keep happening over and over again. I really hope the next US government tries its hardest to do something about this issue. You’ve seen it work in every country and everyone knows that there’s no need for high powered weaponry (LOL IDK WHAT TO CALL IT) so why can’t you just do something to...stop it? (i don’t know if you’re american but i’m just saying that in general to the US)

Too busy cowering in a corner because they don’t understand how fight or flight works despite claiming the know exactly how they’d react in a hypothetical active shooter situation.

The deadliest shootings in US history were of Native Americans by the government. Please don’t erase the horrific way our government has treated the Native people.

How about every story that mentions Orlando as the biggest mass shooting in US history includes an asterisk with *not including massacres of Native Americans? Or maybe *since we began keeping track of these things?

‘bout time, the Orlando shooting has drawn all attention away from the murder of Christina Grimmie and the crash of that Egypt Air flight that Drumpf assured us was terrorism - and while ISIS has claimed responsibility for the Orlando Massacre, no one has claimed the Egypt Air crash.
