Also, the acting awards that didn’t go to POC went to geezers, which warmed my old lady’s heart.

it’s nice to see that Broadway seems to be much more accepting of people of all size, age, and race.

I just now realized that the acting awards for Musical and Play this year lead to ACCIDENTAL SEGREGATION?

I love coverage of the new American aristocracy. The most diverse show ever on Broadway is only attainable if you are rich and white.

scalpers are why Hamilton is so expensive to see. If Ticketmaster actually did something to prevent bots from purchasing tickets en masse for resale, regular joes could afford to see the show.

I’m awaiting the eventual Netflix release. Someone is sitting there salivating about the licencing agreement.

Best acceptance speech of the night by far was Daveed. He is effortlessly comfortable on stage whether in character or not. I hope to see him for many years to come.

He was a standout in a show full of standouts. It was such an unexpected performance considering how laid back he seems in interviews, etc. I hope to be able to see him continuing to perform in any medium.

Renée Elise Goldsberry’s speech was touching. She has been really open about her experiences with miscarriage.

I feel like so many people suffer and mourn in silence about miscarriage, and I’m glad she is sharing her story so others might hear and feel some sort of community and not quite so alone. <3 <3

I really just have a ton of hearts for today.

I’ve been a fan since she was Evangeline on One Life to Live. And I’ll be forever bitter that her character was sacrificed at the altar of Natalie, who was the absolute worst.

I’m glad she’s on to bigger and better things!

It’s also nice to see the musical categories go to the most deserving nominee. Lead Actress in a Musical was a stacked category with four amazing singers. It says a lot about Erivo’s talent that she was able to stand out the way she did, and it says a lot about the voters that they didn’t ignore it so Hamilton could sweep.

I so wanted Carmen Cusack to win, her role was so difficult and she absolutely owned it. But then when the Color Purple performed, and I got a load of Cynthia Erivo, I realized this was an impossible choice. What a fantastic year on Broadway. I agree with you that Tony voters generally see these as a meritocracy, and I also appreciate that.

I love Carmen Cusack. She was my second choice. In most years she would have walked away with it. I think her performance on Sunday will convince a lot of people to see Bright Star.

I am so happy for all of them!! Daveed slays in Hamilton as two characters, Renee does my fave Hamilton song Satisfied and I adore her. Leslie Odom puts so much emotion into his portrayal of Aaron Burr and I am so glad that he won over Lin cause I knew Lin would win all his other ones. And of course Cynthia is a revelation in the color purple!

Oh, thanks, Jez! I have only been looking forward to the Tonys for months because, seriously, Hamilton made this last year better for me. Instead of watching, though, I went to a vigil last night. Now I’m catching up and bawling. These people are so precious! Love is love is love is love.

The Tonys were also all about diversity in Orange is the New Black-actor appearances. There were performers (Taystee and Soso)! Presenters (Suzanne)! Winners (Taystee)! Even wives of winners (Yoga Jones)!
