Is it dumb of me to hope we might get some action on assault weapons out of this?
I’m thinking we hate terrorists more than we love kids, maybe?
And that even the NRA can’t be seen to be helping ISIS.

Please tell me I’m dumb in the comments.

So, this likely was not a coordinated attack (ISIS didn’t plan or contribute to it). So, it was more like Dylan Roof, and less like Jared Loughner.

And what’s the one single factor that united them all? Guns. Def need more regulation in this area, right? That’s why I’m kind of hypin about being able to vote for the first woman president. Not only is that history damn cool but she’ll get the ball rolling on gun control. Actually getting pretty excited now.

On a related note, to reflect the pain and suffering the people of Orlando are feeling, Disney World announced a 20% grief surcharge will be added to all of its all tickets.

Disney is more LGBT-friendly than most other corporations combined. They are probably the one company most directly affected by this.

It wasn’t a comment on Disney being LGBT friendly.

It was a comment on how Disney World gouges the hell out of people every chance they get for any little thing.

Callimachi’s twitter was really illuminating yesterday - the idea that ISIS doesn’t WANT these lone wolf types to ask for permission - because if they try to contact ISIS, they might get caught - was particularly chilling. ISIS isn’t Al Qaeda - they’d rather have five Pulse-style shootings with a hasty claim of responsibility tacked on by the shooter than one coordinated 9/11 style attack.

It would be nice if Obama would hold a press conference in which he says, or rather yells at the top of his lungs, “Republicans in Congress refuse to let the government deny gun permits to people on the FBI’s terrorism list!”

it's kind of unfair though. not that republicans aren't being pieces of shit about it, but the no-fly list is a mess and it's impossible to find rrationale as to why you are on it or to fight it. and you can't deny consitutional rights without due process.

You don’t have the “constitutional right” to own whatever weapons you feel like owning with no governmental interference.

Not being a constitutional scholar, I suppose I could be wrong about this! If so I’ll go check Amazon to see if I can order up a crate of M67s.

Slate has a great article on the difference between attacks actually planned and coordinated by ISIS and attacks that are committed by random people who essentially assign credit to ISIS to give their crimes more ‘legitimacy’. It really matches up with a lot of the observations in this article.

It contrasts the directed attacks — featuring multiple teams of heavily armed attackers coordinating, pre planned escape routes, etc. vs. attacks like this that are just one person and not thoroughly planned.

And yet just as deadly, something the republicans def don’t understand. That’s why we need some common sense gun laws that Hillary can get done. I mean, damn, I’m still with Bernie but now that he was beat fair and square I’m actually pretty excited about the gun control legislation that my girl Hillary can get done.

The reasoning behind this is multi-faceted. Whether he was supported by ISIS or not, ISIS is now tied to the attack and people will think “ISIS is here.” Media headlines started blasting that out yesterday and while not explicitly stating it, that’s what everyone will come to believe. The second fact is that now ISIS can turn around and say to their supporters, “look at how we are able to attack America!” This second fact is especially important when they are suffering from mounting losses in Iraq. They can play it as they are still powerful.

This has been your lesson in Terrorism 101

I have a revelation for you. People are already here that would do the same and worse. Whatever stupid set of ideals they choose as thier motivation is immaterial. That they believe those falsehoods is what matters. Helping to keep people from these cultist ideals is paramount.

Funny how people forget home-grown terrorism is a thing. The only weapon against religion and its dangers is education. More school, less religious text thumping. This is important domestically just as important as globally. People are devoid of logic, reasoning and simple skills that are cultivated by a well rounded education. Seems like this should be a no-brainer but then again many of the legislators (by nature of being American) seem to have no brains.

So that’s the scary thing though right? Being part of that ideology doesn’t mean you have to travel to Syria for training. You just adopt the mentality and get after it. Bogus.

And you know this wouldn’t even be possible if it wasn’t for guns. Like, why do we allow people to buy assault rifles and handguns? Neither of those are good for hunting or sport shooting. And even if they were it doesn’t matter because being able to be used to kill someone trumps a little fun on the weekends, ya know? Pun intended :P

And that’s what always got to me about Bernie, even though I’ve been supporting him for a minute. He was always kinda with the NRA and with assault weapons and cools with guns and I just wasn’t down with that. That’s actually why I’m pretty stoked to vote for Hillary now. She’s on point about guns.

You know that guns are legal in France right? Oh and by the way Obama said two weeks ago, “I just got briefed on ISIS sympathizers who are US citizens who are on the watch lists but I can’t do anything about their guns because of the NRA and GOP.” May ya’ll are blaming the wrong person.

Why should ISIS get the credit? Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick is sure that the Christian God is just doling out justice.

Great. So ISIS just confirms the narrative that fuckheads have been running with.

We’ve been upgraded from “dumpster fire” to full-on “Springfield Tire Fire.” Hoping like hell that I’m wrong, but this, timed with the election, timed with the weakness of Hillary against a populist candidate preying on fear...yeah, this seems like our “over the cliff” moment.
