      Sometimes I put a leash on my semi-automatic and just drag it around the neighborhood. It likes to shoot and trees. Sometimes it tries to go after cars so I have to give it a stern talking to. NO SEMI AUTOMATIC. BE A GOOD SEMI AUTOMATIC OR I WILL PUT YOU BACK UNDER MY BED.

    Authorities stated that they are not away [sic] of the intentions of the suspect, who is currently in custody.

    LA Times:

    Santa Monica Police Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks said on Twitter that the suspect told one of her officers after he was arrested that he wanted “to harm Gay Pride event.”

    Identified as James Howell of Indiana.

    There’s always going to be copycats. One act of violence begets another. Some nut hears about that club being shot up and thinks, “now’s my chance!” and goes to murder some gay people of his own.

    Thankfully, this one was stopped in time. I hope we will continue to be this lucky.

      Too early to say but it wouldnt surprise me to find that this had been planned prior to the Orlando tragedy.

      did he have those guns in the car and not the trunk? do the cops need a warrant to search a car?

        You would be surprised at the reasons people call the police- they’ll call on their own landscapers. And you don’t need a warrant if you have consent or if he was pulled over and found to have a suspended license or expired registration.

        Depends. If anything is in plain view, that would give them the probable cause needed to do a search. They could also do a search incident to arrest if he was under arrest for something else. Lastly, he can give them permission to search the car.

        Assault weapons definitions are pretty vague. Some general examples of qualifiers that have appeared on some different lists include a bayonete rung, a pistol grip, the type of magazine system, ect. The police IDed it as an assault rifle so assuming they are correct that would narrow it down to rifles with both semi-auto and automatic fireing modes (examples being members of the M-16 family and non-civilian Kalashnikovs) which are much harder to acquire (a few federal laws control assault rifles).

        My 26-year old son is in L.A. for vacation and was going to Pride today. I kind of almost had a panic attack when I saw this, combined with thinking about Orlando since I saw what happened at 7 am today.
