      I one time made the mistake of reading the Wikipedia article about the Sandy Hook shootings. It includes a detailed timeline of the brief events that occurred. Of course I knew the body count before hand, but the imagery... the way it went down... it fucked me up for weeks. I just can’t comprehend why there was no definitive action in response. There’s just no reasoning besides the utter ignorance and callousness of the American people.

    I moved to the UK from NJ about 2 weeks ago and now that I’m reading this from a different point of view, what the fuck? I mostly read UK news and there are a couple stabbings, but in the last two weeks every other day there’s a big shooting in the US. Why do people do this?

      Our society sucks. Cognitive dissonance is the main operating mode of most Americans. Insane dichotomies wreak havoc on the helpless American psyche. Massive emphasis on individualism and personal responsibility, while conformism is the prevailing social force. Christian fundamentalism and vapid new-age spirituality. Technological and scientific superiority, but meager infrastructure and education. It goes on and on. Our culture is ill and it causes illness in individuals. Once you’ve been here long enough you’ll start to feel it too.

      Anyways, probaby similar reasons to the stabbings? This case is possibly a homophobe, a disgruntled employee, or even a jaded bath-salt-sniffing lover who completely lost their mind.

      if its terror, like it sounds, they are going to have a real uphill battle justifying lax gun laws. I get that in california, the muslim couple got their guns illegally, but in florida, its so fucking easy to get a gun, its a joke. I mean it, seriously, right out of the back of a car, back of a van, off the side of the road - easy. And legal.

      Only shmucks buy guns off dealers in florida - person to person sale is too easy.

    No police or sheriff feed that I can find online but over 5K are listening in on the fire feed for Orlando at http://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/86…

    Last update was just now a count of patients that were transported to the hospital as “40 +2”. I am not sure what the plus 2 is, could be fatalities?

    Heavy stuff and hoping the best for everyone involved.

    UPDATE 2:10 AM: Sounds like it is still ongoing. They were talking about moving a bomb unit, moving more victims out :(

    UPDATE 2:15 AM PT: Gunfire, gunfire, gunfire! All rescue personnel directed to move back 1oo yards from their current positions. Officer injured requesting aid at command post.

      They put the officer in the back of a pick up truck and moved him to be transported. Sounds like at least one other injured victim is being evacuated by pick up truck for transport. Sounds like rescue personnel have been directed to stand back as injured people are brought to them. This is nuts to listen to live http://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/86…

      UPDATE JUST NOW, 227AM PT: They are rolling an injured person up the street on a gurney to the transport staging area. Crazy tense situation! They keep saying injured victims and it sounds like they are moving them out still a few at time to the treatment/transport area.

      I know this is probably being broadcast live on CNN or something, but the latest update is they’ve got five more victims to move to the treatment areas, 2 trauma and 3 stable. They had to set up a second treatment group.
