Finally someone has done the right thing.

Also, I’ve been lurking on this site for a good two months, finally made an account to comment on this. Hello Jezebel friends!

Sometimes the worst punishment is not prison. Don’t get me wrong, a six months sentence was far too kind, but I think it’s not the only punishment a person can endure, and right now his life is ruined. His family is ruined financially and they’re asking for money to cover their attorneys, he can’t do what he loves anymore, he got expelled from college, everyone knows him as a rapist. I think being out there and not being able to live the life you thought you were entitled to is far worse than being locked up. Especially for a brat who always got what he wanted.

So if a judge doesn’t do the right thing, some people out there will make sure he gets exactly what he deserves. It’s so ironic that his family pushed for a trial and just made this 1,000 times worse for everyone.

I legitimately feel like he’s still not escaping justice. And I’m glad. It will only get worse as he ages. This will never go away.

Nope. Plenty of other prisoners face all that and years behind bars. This fucker is the poster child for needing a long sentence. Did you read his statement to the court? He blames Stanford, alcohol and slutty women. Not a single thing in his proclamation was about his personal responsibility.

Unrelated, but sort of related: does anyone else experience wildly un-Jezebel ads appearing below every article? This is the one that is appearing for me directly underneath the comments section right now. UGHGHHH

That’s an incredibly astute comment. Too often the narrative is how an athlete “lost” their way. No, a criminal was involved in sports.

I’m putting this here as it’s a relatively anonymous and safe space to vent...

I don’t think I really understood triggers or trigger warnings until I came home tonight after dinner & drinks and started reading through my Facebook feed of the various reactions to this story...

Bit of back story.. I was raped when I was 18 (a few times and had to have two abortions) .. By my ex who couldn’t let go.... But really as evidenced by this story... Back story not necessary... She was apparently drunk, I wasn’t -it was rape nonetheless in both

What is triggering is the reaction to this case and all the others... When the Colombia case and Rollingstone story came out last year, I had to listen to my mom and brother go on about how “third wave feminism” is bringing the country down.

This is where my rant comes in... I guess because I’ve been trained to be a “nice person” and not disagreeable, I just sat placidly through their nonsense. But motherfuckers.... How do you say that shit to a rape victim? How do you try to act like rape isn’t real? I spent pretty much the whole of my twenties feeling guilty about myself, would I do that just for nothing? Not one single person on earth would make that up. And I really wish we could translate statistics into real life... Stats say that 20-35% of women have been sexually assaulted... That feels small... But guess what- look around the room... If there is 10 women in the room, at LEAST 2 of them have been assaulted in some way...

Ok... Rant over and thank you for listening

I found that story on Reddit and to my surprise most of the visible comments were supportive of the victim and anti-Brock. I’m sure tomorrow we’ll get a bunch of sports radio dudebros spewing hot takes that no one asked for to make up for it.

Every now and then Reddit gets it right. Don’t get me wrong, many of them are still women hating shitbags but this case was so cut and dried there was literally no room for discussion.

I don't understand. Why do some men embrace the stereotype that they have no control over their bodies? That they're just apes about to fuck anything that moves? Isn't that demeaning? Insulting? Why am I seeking logic with these people?

It seems to stem from the same mindset that puts women in burkas, as any glimpse of a female will wipe out male self-control. It isn’t just idiotic, but a crude way to absolve rapists/assailants of any guilt.

It’s like the douchebags who say, “Humans aren’t built for monogamy and I have no control over how many women I want to sleep with.”

Because human beings haven’t risen above base animal instincts to put people on the moon, write earth-shattering sonatas and invent Netflix and shit.

He was obviously a good swimmer to end up at Stanford, but did people really think he was going to be Olympic caliber? There are a lot of elite college swimmers and only 2 Olympic spots for each event. I haven’t kept up with swimming much in recent years, so I don’t know.

USA Swimming oversees all competetive swimming in the US from age group to masters. He will never be able to join a swim club beholden to USA Swimming for life, meaning most all of the coached teams in the US. It’s kind of a beautiful punishment.

I don’t know about swimmers for this year’s Olympics, but he was supposedly up on the list of people heading to the trials. I guess now he’s disinvited, which is as it should be.

Well that is beyond sad. Won’t somebody think of “20 minutes of action” man and cut him some slack? I mean, his nonpology specifically stated that he blamed alcohol and Stanford’s blending of education with real world decisions for his behavior. How dare they! It’s a damn pity that USA Swimming agreed with Stanford. Total travesty of justice though that “Steak no longer tastes good to me”. Those evil assholes who did this all!

Exactly. It “was ruined”. Not like he had any hand in destroying it himself. As your said: Barf.

Side note: If ANYBODY deserves to be locked up for a very long time, it’s this fucking guy. His statement, his actions, his father. This is not a person who has seen the last of the law.......at all.
