My Libertarian FIL and I have argued for a couple years because he was sure China was going to end up owning the US and we would all become their de facto slaves. I always argued that China’s economy was built up like a house of cards based upon bullshit economic data and would collapse.

Let’s hope this happens before Thanksgiving.

I have some liberal friends who constantly argued the same thing when Bush was President. They were under the impression that Obama was going to end trade with the Chinese.

When I was in college in the later half of the 80's, a lot of people were certain we were going to be owned by the Japanese.

When does the wealth shit-trickle down become wealth shit-explosive diarrhea? Because we should all be doing much better than we are now and I’m tired of sucking what I can out of all these assholes.

All in NYC Real Estate right? And that was a major reason I supported Bernie Sanders. I’m not a big fan of the inequality we’ve got going right now, and that’s why now that he lost fair and square I will be supporting Hillary. She’s on the right side of history when it comes to this stuff. And hey, if I can tell my future daughter that I voted for the first woman president, well, that’s a pretty nice sweetener. Not to mention, that Hillary resume? Straight fire.

For a guy whom I’m told is behind every sinister, liberal plot in my head, I sure don’t hear much about George Soros.

Gawks is going to be bought by Univision and will pivot to viral cat videos and listicles.

      Oops, spoiler alert, I guess.

China collapsing is not really a fringe opinion, even if not everyone believes it will happen. But when it does and Soros makes a(nother) fortune, watch for the headlines that Soros caused the collapse of China’s economy by betting against the yuan.

Right, because its completely beyond the realm of possibility that George Soros would manipulate currency markets. Nope, just a passive investor, a guy who places his bets and lets the chips fall where they may.

        Come on man.

See, it didn’t even take him making a fortune to get those comments. And now, if he ends up losing lots of money on these trades, would that change your mind as to his manipulation? I’m guessing no.

I’ve read several articles over the last year saying the Chinese government is purposefully implementing macroeconomic changes making the country less reliant on manufacturing and exports and more reliant on consumer demand, leading to short-term economic pain during this transition. Is this just the effect of the new shift or something else entirely?

Yes, but they have a smallish, middle class, which means they are highly reliant on the wealthy to buy enough stuff to prop up an consumer driven economy. The wealthy are storing their money overseas (e.g. US property) in case there is a collapse. So the idea that you can depend on the wealthy to buy enough for the wealth and prosperity to “trickle down” is a dangerous game. Remind you of any other country?

If Soros supports something, it must be wrong/evil, so conservatives are now required to bet heavily that China won’t collapse, while denying their economy has a problem at all.

Right? Soros [and Bill Gates - props where props are due] is one of the only actual socially-benevolent mega-billionaires. As a Bernie supporter I totally get what’s going on with income inequality but the one thing that has always surprised me is that Soros continues to be on the right side of history when it comes to things like immigration, welfare, and even the minimum wage. So, hey, I think we need income inequality and that the wealth divide needs to narrow just as much as anyone, but let’s at least listen to the good people that are in-the-know, like Soros. Hillary does and that’s just another reason why I’m voting for her in November.

Hillary surrounds herself with good people, will make history as the first woman president, and has a seriously ass-kicking resume. Perfect? No. But good enough for me.

Betting on China’s collapse...a collapse that has already happened. In fact China has passed the collapse phase and is now in the economic rectal prolapse phase. That is where the country has expelled its excess capital and the over production from that capital and forced both on the rest of humanity.... http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/09/wor…
