DiCaprio is terrible in everything. Full stop. However, he might be ok in the Johnny Depp biopic. I think he could really immerse himself in the role of entitled, overrated shitbird.

Seriously?! Have these guys learned nothing from the controversy around Exodus: Gods and Kings and Ghost in the Shell? Now Spider-Man and a film about Rumi are being whitewashed too? Ugh, just... ugh.

How is Spider-Man whitewashed? Also, many Persians are physically indistinguishable from Europeans. There’s really nothing wrong with these casting suggestions. We’re not talking about a white Malcolm X.

Don’t know if you read the article, but Ganke Lee, who is supposed to be a Korean-American, is being played by a Caucasian person in the next film apparently.

It always amazes me how critics of Hollywood’s overt racism with respect to casting are unable to grasp that the studios are primarily motivated by the desire to make money, not to fill racial quotas.

Yet those same studios will make flop after flop with white casts. If just one of them would take the plunge and start casting POC as themselves, the others will follow. If one movie doesn’t make money, try another one. It’s what they do with white actors all the time with no problem.

It’s obviously not about filling racial quotas, it’s about not having the audacity to insult us all by casting white people as non-white people. That’s all.

They are able to grasp it. They also understand that the only reason studios don’t think they’ll be able to make money off movies with non-white actors is a wider racism in society, and that unless someone puts pressure on the studios to change their casting process, nothing will change.

I’m going to give Leo the benefit of the doubt here and say that he probably would turn this role down if it were offered to him. Whatever you think of him, he seems pretty knowledgable when it comes to social justice issues.

RDJ on the other hand better realize how ridiculous it is to method act your way into becoming another race.

I’d be surprised if either of them took the roles (especially considering the attention this movie will get after these comments). Neither of them need the money, and RDJ definitely doesn’t need the controversy.

How are people still doing this? The lack of self-awareness you’d have to have to publicly suggest DiCaprio and Downey for these roles... The mind reels.
