    Good.

And what bullshit fucking excuses given by her, too. ‘Oh Im this super professional athlete that has just randomly been popping this pill for ten years without any scientific reason...but you know, my family has diabetes...oh it has no link WHATSOFUCKINGEVER to preventing diabetes, but you know, just in case, popopopopop, it’s not like its my JOB to be on top of what’s banned and what isn’t, popopopopop, oh a bunch of other Russian athletes are also on this pill so it makes it totes legit’.

What a load of shit. You ask me, she got off easy.

I’m not a doctor, but the reasons it was prescribed (irregular electrocardiogram results and a family history of heart issues and diabetes) don’t necessarily go away (the latter doesn’t, the former may resolve).

If this drug is legitimately prescribed by doctors for those two reasons, I don’t see why she wasn’t allowed to continue taking it for medical purposes.

Yeah, but she didn’t even have a current prescription. So even following your logic, she’s in the wrong.

She knows it’s part of her job to be current on restricted medications and to have documentation to back up anything she’s taking.

She’s paying for the doping sins of the motherland. The investigation placed no blame on her, yet suspended her for two years when it was a medical prescription. Ridiculous!

The issue is that there was no record of her still having that prescription after 2013, but she’s continued taking the drug, even after it was banned.

A medical prescription that had expired 3 years ago though.

The entire Russian Olympic team faces a possible ban from the shit filled waters of Rio for dozens of athletes taking the exact same drug. This is systematic doping. She’s a fucking liar.

Sharapova said in March she had started using the drug — which boosts blood and oxygen flow — under a doctor’s guidance a decade ago because of irregular electrocardiogram results and a family history of heart issues and diabetes.

    First: hoseshit, lady. Horse. SHIT.

Second: can a company that has paid her endorsement fees sue to retrieve their money?

They probably could if it was part of their contracts with her, but I wonder if it would be worth it. It sounds like it’d be expensive, and do you think she has all that money laying around still? Probably not.

I’m sure this is not a Tiger/Nike situation, but I might sue on principle after being duped by a cheat and getting precisely the opposite association with my brand than I paid for.

Sports would be much more interesting to me if they allowed them to take all the drugs they wanted and they were all massive Cronenbergian body horror flesh mountains.

    Cheetah?

If it seems like it isn’t 100% proof of doping (for athletic gain), why place the ban now?

Still, she did keep poppin after 2013. That doesn’t help her case lol

Like all the rest of them.

She deserves the ban for being dumb enough to be caught though.

She should have locked herself in a panic room.

If they can prove she used banned substances, there’s a ban—that’s this case. If they can prove she took banned substances on purpose, that’s the longer ban.

At one point Sharapova was taking 30 different medications and supplements... and yet she STILL couldn’t beat Serena.

If I was Serena, I’d be filling my house with maniacal laughter all day today.

If don’t pay correct taxes and I get caught, I’m screwed. Did I do it on purpose? Doesn’t matter. Did I realise I was underpaying? Doesn’t matter. Was my tax agent incompetent? Doesn’t matter. If I don’t pay correct taxes and get caught, I’m screwed.

Sharapova is a professional athlete and it’s part of her job to know the rules and regulations under which she competes. That includes banned substances. There was notice from the WADA that this medication was going to be banned. There was plenty of time for her to report that she was a long-time user of this medication, and to work out a solution between authorities and her doctor. That didn’t happen.

She may well have not been taking it for performance enhancement, but it causes performance enhancement and that’s why it was banned. She competed while using a performance enhancing substance and that’s unfair to the other athletes. That’s why she was banned.
