    1) The Democratic Party has a soul searching to do. An old white socialist no one had ever heard of before last year mounted a serious challenge to a long standing Democratic politician with all the name recognition in the world. Clinton has clearly won this primary. But the fact that Sanders mounted such a credible challenge, and the youthful demographic he did so with, signal that there is real frustration with the rightward drift Democrats have allowed themselves to be carried along, and while it may not come back to bite them this election cycle, or the next, but it will eventually without some serious long-term thinking about how to bring this sudden, loud contingent into the fold.

    2) Sanders supporters shouldn’t be expected to gift Clinton their vote. Clinton is not worse than Trump, but it is up to her to convince Sanders supporters that’s the case, to draw real meaningful differences with Trump, and to show that they can “vote their conscience” in good faith and still vote for her.

    3) Sanders, a lifelong independent, is under no obligation to be a “good soldier” and “unite the party.” Clinton is the nominee - that’s her job. Maybe Sanders cares enough about political realities - a nice chairmanship, a cabinet position, something else - that he’ll play ball. Maybe he won’t. But if he wants to take this to the convention with the quixotic notion that he can flip hundreds of super delegates, fine. That’s his right, and if it keeps leftward pressure on the party, even better. If he wants to keep trying to force Clinton to explain her positions, that is fine. There is nothing wrong with making Clinton defend her policy positions on their merit.

    4) There isalso defend against ne. But Clinton shouldn’t have to something wrong with forcing Clinton to defend against unfounded accusations that she “stole” an election that was “rigged” against Sanders from the beginning. It is one thing for Sanders to refuse to give in to Clinton and to continue to draw distinctions with her on policy. If that means he doesn’t give full-throated support to her in the general, and it means his supporters don’t come around that is fine. But Clinton shouldn’t have to convince people who think she stole an election. She didn’t. Sanders didn’t lose this because of some shadowy, behind-the-scenes maneuvering. If the Democratic establishment had the power to end this race, they would have ended it 6 months ago. He lost because Clinton was better organized, strategically smarter and, well, she won more votes in every conceivable way. It is getting old seeing Sanders give truth to the lie among his supporters that every misstep in this campaign is part of some grand conspiracy against him. Nevada was not a conspiracy, the Greek Theater was not a conspiracy, the AP’s call was not a conspiracy, Puerto Rico was not a conspiracy, super delegates are not a conspiracy, and caucuses closed primaries are not a conspiracy. Just because this is the first time you’ve encountered a specific rule or convention, and it happens not to go your way, does not mean it is a grand conspiracy.

I agree with a lot of what you said with the exception of it being his right to try to flip superdelegates. He ran a whole campaign based on letting the people decide because super delegates are unfair and now that he didn’t win the popular vote he's all about super delegates? That's bullshit.

“I agree with a lot of what you said with the exception of it being his right to try to flip super delegates.”

Eh. It’s hypocritical as all fuck, but he’s trying to win an election within the well set rules of that election. I just wish he’d spent more of the first half of his campaign doing things to win the election, like working super delegates, instead of whining about how the rules were preventing him from winning the election.

How do we defeat Trump AND Hillary? Because both are evil, and I don’t vote for evil.

That was REALLY shitty of the AP to try to call her the nominee the night before this primary based on their own internal polling. I don’t care if she wins enough delegates tonight, but that struck me as awfully dirty. The AP doesn’t usually play like that, which makes me wonder if it was just crass “we’re the first to call it!” or if someone higher up is in the tank for Hillary.

I voted No Party Preference so I had no dog in the fight (not even a write-in), but that AP move left a really dirty taste in my mouth.

It’s the AP’s job to report news. They had news, and they reported it.

And if you think that’s how the Clinton campaign wanted things to play out, you’re wrong.

I don’t know that it helped her. If you’re a Hillary supporter and you’re worried she’ll lose, but then the AP tells you it’s all over, you’re less likely to vote.
I can’t have thought she was thrilled with the timing herself.

The vast majority? To Reddit to let loose their greatest hits (CONVENTION NOT CORONATION, etc.) and then into the booth in November to vote for Hillary.

As a penis-possessor, I can tell you that it would have been very easy for me to write. I voted for Sanders in the Indiana primary but I am still so happy my daughter will have someone to look up to and hopefully see as an example that maybe she could be president one day too.

She has a solid lead here in New Mexico, too! They’re not calling it yet (and not like we’ll be decisive anyway), but I’m pleased about it!

Also, so far it looks like Dems turned out in roughly double the numbers Republicans did, here. Trump, being essentially unopposed, still has as of this writing a whopping and sad 72.6% of NM Republican votes, but it’s heartening to see that a lot of Republicans must have just stayed the fuck home in this very politically mixed state.

For all of us persons of color and women who have been called all kinds of “niggers”, “cunts”, and everything else for supporting Clinton, this night really is for us. I’m proud that she’s going to be my next president. It’s time to unite the party. #ImWithHer

Every little (white) girl in America can look at Hillary and know that the glass ceiling has a few more cracks in it. And be whatever they want to be

Every little girl (of color) in Libya, Syria, and Palestine can weep knowing that their mothers, fathers, brothers, and friends are at risk. Because while we celebrate here, Hillary has shown she could give two shits about the war and destruction she revels in. “We came, we saw, he died!” We get to watch while she enacts her no fly zone policy in Syria, her ignorance of Netenyahu’s actions in Palestine, and her regime change which will cause more deaths elsewhere.

    Joy! Because..you know, History!!!

Given that Qaddafi was on the march explicitly to commit genocide when we began our air support, I’m pretty sure that there are plenty of little girls in Libya that prefer living to the alternative.

You think women don’t have to overcome obstacles just because they are upper class and white? Because last I checked, that didn’t change the fact that doesn’t change the fact that they still get paid less than men for the same work or that they can’t get an abortion after 20 weeks in some states or that if they get raped, they’ll get scrutinized over what they did wrong.

Hate on Hillary all you want but don’t pretend any woman in this country has no obstacles to overcome.

I strongly believe that upper class white women do not face obstacles that preclude them from being successful. Unless I’m just unaware of Hillary overcoming the need for an abortion during her 21st week of pregnancy in a state in which thats illegal in order to become the democratic nominee?

I mean privilege is not a binary. It’s not either off or on. Do upper class white women get cat called disgustingly? Yes. Are they kept out of prestigious universities? No.
