“Rarely are researchers’ findings so satisfying. Women may want more sex than their husbands or partners think.”

I love the fact that finding 50% of the species is unsatisfied is considered a “satisfying result.” Whut.

Do you mean men or women? Because it can be read both ways, or maybe that’s just my lack of sleep talking but either way I’m confused.

I don’t understand why it is our responsibility to take men by the hand and EXPLAIN TO THEM how NOT TO RAPE.

And how/why to care about their partners wants and needs.

BE A DECENT HUMAN BEING. There, done.

9 out of 10 rapists agree, it was probably the woman’s fault. If only we communicated better with the poor dears!

In an online survey about sexual activity and attitudes, more than half the men who played an intramural or intercollegiate sport reported coercing a partner into sex. Of the sexually coercive behaviors listed on the survey, including “I used threats to make my partner have oral or anal sex,” almost all met the legal definition of rape.

My God. Do these men really not know how fucked up that is?

When I read the headline I was thinking of the “coercing” being in the form of begging/pleading, not in the form of threats.

      I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. :/

Sadly, there are a hell of a lot of women who are first on the blame the rape victim bandwagon, and beaming while they send their daughters and husbands out to purity balls. They don’t appear to be aware of it.

There’s still a whole lot of parents out there who aren’t teaching these things to their kids, and probably raising hell any time someone else even considers doing it for them.

I’d expect there’s a decent overlap between these parents and Trump supporters.

Yeah, given that Stanford swimmer whose pappy wrote a letter of support for him to say that he only got 20 minutes of action (while he was witnessed raping an unconscious woman) and shouldn’t go to jail, so...yeah.

I’ve noticed this a lot; people writing in mainstream publications assume “you” are a heterosexual man. (Cracked is especially prone to this, which is weird to me because in other pieces they’re clearly trying to be inclusive and explain why sexism is bad and such.) It’s just another example of the culturally pervasive idea that men are people and women are, well, women.

Yes! And it’s not just publications, it happens all the time. Recently I walked out of a concert by Alestorm because the lead singer kept saying shit like “we’re not here to hit on your girlfriend”, like, “you”, the fan, must be a straight man who may or may not be here with “his girlfriend”. There were so many women in the audience wearing Alestorm tshirts and pirate hats and the frontman was just talking past them to their assumed boyfriend who obviously chose the night’s entertainment. And I was like, you know what, if these assholes don’t want/recognise/appreciate women in their audience, I’m not going to bother _being_ in their audience, so I left until the next act (Sabaton, awesome, better performers, better songs, better appreciation for _everyone_ in their audience) came on. I spend a lot of time in assumed-male spaces and it’s so fucking grating once you notice how many people will say things that assume a white straight man is the only type of person listening, even in a room that’s half women.

“(1) women like sex but (2) not when that sex is coerced out of their bodies”

Waitaminit, what? But that’s what men are like. Men like sex but not when it coerced out of them by someone they don’t want to fuck. Women are like men, then. Women are... people???????

I mean, it’s almost like, stay with me here, that men like to donate money to charity, but they don’t like to have their donations coerced out of them by charities they don’t want to give money to. They want to choose when and who they donate money to. So they can like to donate money, even really, really like to donate money to some charities, but that doesn’t mean it’s okay for some random charity to steal money from a man when he’s drunk. So women are like that, except with sex. *mind blown*
