Funny you say that, he’s apparently going to get Ol’ Ferdinand Marcos re-buried in a cemetery for national heroes.

(Right now, Marcos’ corpse is being preserved, Lenin-style, in his native Ilocos Norte province. And yes, his family are still big in politics: his son Ferdinand Jr., better known as “Bongbong” because Pinoy nicknames are weird and funny to outsiders, damn near became vice-president in the latest election.)

Yes, let’s criticize these dumb brown people for exercising their right to democracy.

You white liberals are such hypocrites. The Philippines are a shit hole. Drugs and crime are rampant. It’s no surprise the people are fed up with this shit and want real change, not just another status quo corrupt politician.

Don’t pretend you know better than the people who live there, you neo-colonialists.

I didn’t really get a sense that this article “criticizes dumb brown people.” Duterte won with only 39% of the vote. A majority of the country wants nothing to do with his extreme views and violent rhetoric. This is a man who rationalizes the murder of journalists and joked about the rape of an innocent woman. It pains me to know that this is the guy representing me and my people on the world stage. And if you think this guy is some incorruptible man of the people, then you need to spend some time reading up on him.

Imagine the medals a drug dealer would get for killing the president of the Philippines. All the other drug dealers would pitch in for some nice awards, and the other politicians would be all like, “Woo-hoo! Now I can run for President!”

Usually Presidents are just addicts, not dealers.

Better a functioning addict like Kennedy or Churchill than a man who is all-too pious.

Eh, I’d rather not have a Kennedy-esque addict in the Whitehorse. We don’t need anymore president facilitated abuse of 19 year olds in the Whitehouse pool.

“It was a dare, but I knew exactly what he meant. This was a challenge to give Dave Powers oral sex. I don’t think the President thought I’d do it, but I’m ashamed to say that I did. It was a pathetic, sordid, scene, and is very hard for me to think about today. Dave was jolly and obedient as I stood in the shallow end of the pool and performed my duties. The President silently watched.”

This is the problem with dangerously insane, single-issue politicians.

Its perfect, what better way to cull off most of the drug dealers on the street than have them kill each other off?

Unless the financial incentive structures change (e.g., legalization) in practice this never works. Unregulated markets are efficient!

Ah, the Philippines, a tropical paradise destroyed by American colonial ideals. Is it really any surprise we f#@% this up????? Yeah, we didn’t directly do it, but who can deny they aren’t following our love for. Shitshow.

This is our future, radical non-detailed leaders who yell stuff that old people vibe on. People in the phils are scared of the crime, but it was also a fatigue with ‘insider corruption.

How different is Trump from this guy? Trump is rich, etc... but he has the same level of bullet points that appeal to seniors.

So I guess Duterte was aiming for former president Marcos’s shoes. (heh, unintentional Imedla pun) Only trick is, we aren’t propping up the dictator this time. The filipino Trump is a good indicator of where we could be headed under a Trump administration. Public and reality show style executions of criminals.
