I despise Trump but am very uncomfortable with how quickly many people have rationalized and excused the violence and harassment going on.

Not only is the violence bad on its own accord, it plays right into his tiny little baby hands.

      Agreed.

Like I mentioned here earlier, they’re the best thing Trump has going for him.

Hopefully this will be part of the opening cards in the new Purge movie.
Cut to Megan Kelly FoxNews audio “Next July’s GOP convention will be replaced with an organised riot on the Washington Mall. GOP Senate leader Mitch McConnell says ‘President Clinton must feel the anger of the American people’, and he’s warning police to stay away...”.....

I think people who point to the actions of protesters as ammo for the right are missing the point. The right, particularly the media arm of Fox et al. are going to demonize liberals, the left, and minorities no matter what. There is no way to pitch a perfect game where conservatives are unable to criticize politics to the left of them.

Look at Obama who picked a guy for SCOTUS that most Republicans said had an unblemished record. Look at all the times he’s reached across the aisle, even adopting Repub positions and still getting rejected and screamed at.

People want to talk about “skin in the game” (such a stupid phrase btw), well I think many of the people protesting have plenty of skin in the game. Trump has without question threatened and insulted Muslims and Latinos in this country. He is openly supported by white supremacists and he is a huge misogynist. There’s plenty of skin in the game for a lot of people. We can’t all be Free Hugs Guy. Sometimes, if it quacks like a duck and looks like a duck, it’s a racist, or something.

So... violence then? That’s the moral of the story? Because that sets a pretty bad precedent. If you don’t want the Right to act violently on their legitimately held beliefs (because you don’t agree with them), then how can you argue for liberals to riot? It’s the same exact justification for bombing Planned Parenthoods.

If you think violence is a legitimate way of expressing your dissatisfaction with others’ political views, you’re just a breath away from being a terrorist.

Conservatives call for violence all the time and no one bats an eye despite the fact they stockpile guns. Leftist writer calls for riots and everyone goes into a tizzy despite the fact that most likely none of the protestors know who he is.

Liberal writers should avoid this kinda shit precisely because of the double standard you point out.

I’m not saying it’s fair, but that’s the political environment we’re dealing with. If you want to keep your job as a liberal pundit, you’ve got to remain squeaky clean.

There are only three acceptable occasions to riot:

    1) Football championships.

    2) Hockey championships.

    3) Basketball championships.

One of his few consistent positions is that Hispanics are lesser people and should be treated as such. He needs to be treated the same way we would treat a foreign leader advocating ethnic cleansing. “Stand back and hope it works itself out” is not the right position to take. He and his supporters need to see how destructive their rhetoric and stances are.

Christ, HamNo. I kind of—no, I -really- hate some of the bullshit the editors and primary controlling interests of Gawker have come up with to defend themselves against Bollea/Thiel/Et. Al., but you remain a fucking treasure.

I didn’t like you at first—well, I didn’t like your pieces, anyway. Once I finally got the stick out of my fourth point of contact and started reading for meaning rather than tone, though—my god, man. Keep killing it. Here, if Gawker survives, or wherever you may land.

I do not see eye to eye with you on -all- of the issues you opine on, but god damn if your acerbic wit isn’t needed. No snark at all.

Maybe this is all just ‘extremely dumb’ and the work of ‘angry conservatives’. But you have people (maybe not this author specifically) obfuscating the fact that people were attacked last night for their political views, one of which caught an egg to the face.

You can’t condemn one form of violence and excuse another. Moreover, all this does is help Trump. This will galvanize his alt-right base, but more importantly it makes fence-sitters wonder which side they’re on. How the fuck can you make Trump (or his supporters) look sympathetic? Wake the fuck up.

Yes. Oh no. Someone was slammed in the face with an egg, which served as a projectile in this case. But I’m glad there are folks like you willing to dismiss violent acts because, hey - not like it was a brick or anything. Good on you.
