    Literally Least Important Election Issue

I mean, I’m not exactly an animal rights activist, myself, but who died and made you king of superlatives?

Right? I mean, they have seen other protestors do it and get attention/air time. Why wouldn't they try it, if it is important to them?

I’ll never forget this... back in 2003, I was part of one of the largest anti-war marches in the country in Los Angeles. I volunteered to help Veterans for Peace (not a vet myself) as a pallbearer for one of their many symbolic coffins representing the dead.

It was boiling hot and we were all tired and had no shade and were weary from the weight of the coffins, which were not real but also not especially light, but we marched on. Then, near the end of the march, there’s some asshole standing under an umbrella with a megaphone screaming, “how can you be against the war if you still eat animals?!”

To this day, I regret not excusing myself as a pallbearer and tearing that motherfucker a new one.

Oh shit. Nothing like California focus. I lived in coastal California at that time and went to anti-war protests...and everyone was bringing their pet causes-it’s like, I know you have your frustrations, but...can we stick to this one thing for now. I am a lifelong vegetarian for animal rights reasons but I really don’t think this sort of action does anything but make everyone hostile towards animal rights-related activity of any kind. It’s just embarrassing.

“[We] expect Bernie Sanders, the progressive candidate, to support more radical action to provide animals not just with improved conditions but with legal rights to be free from harm.”

This isn’t an election issue at all, because it isn’t an issue, because it’s an insane proposition that only some idiot child would not realize is an outright insult to the vast majority of progressives when there are PEOPLE without rights or legal protection in this country.

Yeah, but these are the type of people who put animal rights on the same footing as human rights which means these animals are equally or more important than people. This is a stupid thought, but stupid thoughts aren't punishable.

By that logic, any efforts to improve the lives of poor Americans are an insult to people who are truly suffering in other nations - wars, famines, and all of that. Those people are way worse off than the poor in America, so how dare we talk about raising the minimum wage or providing affordable housing?

Trump literally has his own steaks and the Democrats are being bullied by animal activists. Jesus, they have no chance whatsoever.

Get with the times. Letting Trump Steaks go belly up was clearly a stand in favor of animal rights.

There are probably a few self-identifying liberal groups of people at the moment who are for various, and in my opinion, petty reasons bullying democrats in the face of the Great Orange.

I don’t think this translates to a Trump victory in November, but it has shaken my long standing belief that progressives are overwhelmingly capable of thinking like well adjusted, logical adults.

Why shouldn’t it? The burger is already smarter than your average Republican voter, plus has the ability to swiftly quench hunger, which means it actually provides a useful service to society.

      Suffrage for burgers I say!

“Former” hamburger? If you’re saying that a piece of shit will be voting and driving, it should be in good company. Hell, it should run for office.

I agree, in comparison to the major issues facing the country, this ranks pretty low. It doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t move forward on protections for animals though. I’m pretty sure that Sanders is the only one who would even entertain the idea of this kind of protection. Trump would probably make killing animals a sport, Clinton would do whatever her donors tell her to do, (ie, status quo baby!), and Sanders might act on it. Your choice is pretty clear, whichever path you think that you should act on.

    Good luck California!

I don’t think Sanders would be much different from Clinton on this issue. He’s been a pretty big supporter of the hunting industry, unsurprising given the state he’s elected from.

I’ve totally turned around on hunting in the last few years. I’m still opposed to hunting endangered/threatened animals, but the venison a hunter enjoys lived a more humane and natural life than any domesticated livestock. Although this viewpoint was somewhat shaped by my discover that venison is really, really good.
