I will never not post this quote.

“If I had killed somebody, it wouldn’t have had so much appeal to the press, you see? But… fucking, you see, and the young girls. Judges want to fuck young girls. Juries want to fuck young girls. Everyone wants to fuck young girls!”

Just in case any one here wants to defend him.

This is a quote from Polanski? Is this a fucking quote from Polanski!? I’ve never seen this quote before. I can’t believe this quote exists. I can’t believe all that this quote reveals. It wasn’t bad enough that he was a fugitive who fled to France and proceeded to get into a relationship with a 15 year old but this quote exists as well and people will still defend him. WTF?????????!!!!

I really hope they can extradite and convict him without Samantha Geimer having to take the stand at any point. She has had to relive this over and over for years already thanks to the press and she doesn’t deserve a minute of it.

They would have to, because she has repeatedly said that she opposes extradition and feels that the LA should “honor the deal that was made” or convict him in absentia and sentence him to time served. Regardless of how one feels about extradition, she’s made it clear that she wants no part of it.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but he was already convicted, wasn’t he? Or he pled guilty, which amounts to the same thing? Either way, I can’t think of a reason she would have to testify again. I would imagine he would have to serve the original sentence, plus whatever else for running. Should we ever be lucky enough to see justice in this case.

Does it seem ironic that a far-right government with ties to the Catholic Church is more aggressive in extraditing an alleged pedophile than the previous government? Also, and this is an honest question, if Poland agrees to extradite him, won’t he just stay in France? What’s the probability that this will lead to Polanski facing justice in the US?

Well first of all, I don’t think he’s a citizen of France, he’s one of Poland. Secondly, even if he were a French citizen, I would be surprised if EU regulations didn’t require them to honor the extradition agreement negotiated in the Polish courts.

While 100% in favor of Polanski being extraditated and serving his time, I wonder, if this actually happens, how it would affect the public perception towards Woody Allen?

Since Polanski was actually charged (multiple counts) and plead guilty to one charge, I suspect that Allen defenders would simply highlight that the accusations against him never made it to a court of law as further “evidence” of his innocence. Just my guess.

I doubt it. Polanski’s victim and her mother pursued charges against him right away and he had agreed to a plea deal, acknowledging his guilt. There was never any debate about whether or not he raped her. There was also a lot of public sympathy towards Polanski at the time because his wife and unborn child had been recently murdered by the Manson family and he’d had emotional and addiction issues before that because his family was killed in the Holocaust and he eeked out survival in Nazi-occupied Poland as a child. If it hadn’t been for that, he’d never have even had the chance to skip town.

Really, there is little I can think of that would be more satisfying than for Polanski to finally be extradited and serve his time.

On the ond hand, fuck this shit.

The country is now run by the Law and Justice Party, a socially conservative right-wing party that formerly had close ties with the Catholic Church and opposes abortion and gay rights.

On the other hand, fuck Roman Polanski.

I would get into a long rant about just how awful the Law and Justice Party is - and they’re the fucking WORST - but there is so much animosity against Polanski here that I don’t want to derail.

Personally, I think we have moved way past a realm where any justice could be done. But then, I also don’t believe that prison is the answer to every crime, so Im a lost cause from the start.

I *want* to believe that this could actually happen, but if he’s gotten away with this for 40+ years, I am skeptical that this will be the arrow of justice piercing this dude’s freedom run. In othe words, I’m not holding my breath. But, I very badly want to be surprised with a positive outcome here.

I’ve always felt the countries who house Polanski away do so only because the US government wants him. He is such a high profile case in which not 100% of global society are calling for his head, (He is still making movies after all. Movies that a great deal of not just Hollywood loves but the general public love.), that it’s easy to thumb the nose at the US government in this way. Showing that they aren’t the big honchos they think they are.

Because Ziobro is right. If this was just a normal guy running from the law, if this guy barely made a blip on the radar, these countries would probably hand him over because the public would be crying for them to hand him over. But this is Polanski! Rosemary’s Baby Polanski! Chinatown Polanski! The Pianist Polanski! The public wants more movies from him. So, they are willing to forgive him. Which in turn countries are exploiting this feeling.

It's much easier for them to look tough on pedophiles if they have a liberal celebrity as a fall boy instead of the church. It's no different from countries like France protecting him while cracking down on political enemies like the church.
