“Who are you going to appoint?” Davidoff asked the Daily News, referring to the practice of rewarding allies with influence. “Opponents?”

Just spit-balling here, but perhaps the mayor could have practiced what he preached and appointed folks with experience relevant to the particular post? Never mind, that’s just crazy talk.

This is what comes of spending too much time around the Clintons.

True. The Clintons rub off on everybody. I guarantee Hillary is rubbing off on Huma.

“The campaign holds itself to the highest legal and ethical standards and in light of the questions raised about these contributions has elected to return them,”

Well, returning questionable financial contributions that helped you accomplish a goal after you’ve accomplished the goal, and only when you were caught isn’t really technically the “highest” standard. It’s more like ‘well, at least we didn't beat the shit out of them and just take their money'.

It depends on how many donations they received and how highly they scrutinized each individual donor I guess. I find the political appointment of possibly unqualified people in exchange for donations more troubling, but I don’t know that some of these positions (like McCray’s non profit fund to “advance New York City”) aren’t just empty positions that make rich people look important.

Excellent points. I guess my main sticking point was the same one it always is whenever some scandal gets exposed in any field—just come out and say something along the lines of 'yeah, we screwed the pooch on that one. We'll make it right.', and skip all the 'we believe in the highest possible standards of human behavior, truth, justice, unicorn tears, rainbows, and the laughter of children, and we are always the best humans we can possibly be.' nonsense.

Steve Buschemi shouldn’t be lumped in with the bundlers, though. His woodchipper experience alone qualifies him for service on the board of the Central Park Conservancy.

I wonder if these allegations of straw donations will hold water.

    Sucks if they do.

This is why I cannot wait for Clinton to get elected. Campaign finance reform has been at the center of her campaign policies, and when she’s in office, shit like this won’t fly at all.

It’ll probably happen the same week she uses all the campaign finance money she received from big banks to turn around and heavily regulate big banks. Man, her first few years are going to be a solid push of pure progress, and not simply treading water in any way whatsoever, no sir! I’m so excited!

You forgot to mention the waves of mass arrests, the suspending of the constitution and imposition of marshal law. Oh shit!!!! Sorry, different candidate.

Here’s what I don’t get: they ban big sodas, but then someone donates straws? It doesn’t add up.

Interesting use of the present tense and monolithic stature. The campaign, once started, doesn’t end. You think it’s over, but in reality it’s the only thing that survives.
