You can read through TU’s 2010 seminar guide now. It’s online, and it’s horrific. It’s not any worse than any other hard sell seminar scam like timeshares or investment clubs, but it is every bit as bad. There’s a whole section on how to pressure marks (I mean candidates) into spending huge amounts of money on the Trump programs, including one that recommends that the sales associate question the prospect on their monthly expenses and then explain how they can handle putting $35K on their credit card because it will only be another $300/month in expenses for them. It made my skin crawl to read it.

The guide walks the sales associate through room setup, chair placement, how to spot “motivated” individuals by body language and the questions they answer, and then explains how to isolate the mark to close the final sale. To be fair, I have no doubt Trump had zero to do with this. The guy couldn’t organiz a successful offsite meeting at a Clairmont Inn, let alone a sophisticated scam operation like TU. He just is willing to lend his name to literally anyone with a checkbook.
