Trump with his own people, could still cause damage to the country, but would be largely ineffectual.

Trump with an army of GOP operatives would be like the Reagan presidency x10. They’d let him bloviate, while slowly dismantling most social programs, environmental, health, safety, etc. regulations.

He can outsmart your average American, but I think the GOP could play him very well.

Yup, if he jettisons the White supremacists (that are vocal), he will win in a landslide. Especially if he picks Romney as his VP.

Trump is a tactically simple creature. You cooperate, he cooperates. You oppose him, he opposes you. The moment the GOP stopped fighting him, he embraced them. As long as they stay loyal to him (as Karen Giorno did) he will reward them. A pro-Trump GOP is a GOP with a free rein.

It’s the same principle as Trump Wine or Trump Steaks - same shitty product, with Trump branding, in return for a cut of the profits. The actual product is irrelevant.

Since Trump brought on veteran consultant Paul Manafort to professionalize his insurgent primary campaign last month

He’s doing the Lord’s work, or probably the devil’s. Either way, my point is that it’s a heavy fucking lift. It’s like My Fair Lady meets Sisyphus, but with bullet necklaces and more obscenities and the rock is an orange pile of shit that keeps leaking through your fingers as you attempt to push it up the hill. Shit always finds the level.

I’m enjoying this idea of Donald Trump as the Eliza Doolittle of the Republican Party. “Look at me hair! Loverly, innit?”

Apparently being a campaign strategist is like being an NFL kicker. Once you're in the league, you just bounce from team to team.

Can’t be that much of a purge as photos of these people still exist.

It’s not a proper purge till people deliberately forget they even existed.

This election is increasingly looking like the Soviet power plays of the 20s after Lenin died. What’s next, finding Jeb dead in his study with a hammer buried in his skull?

My money is on finding Romney dead of an ice pick to the head, on his family’s polygamist colonia in Chihuahua.

Working on Team Trump has to be a pretty epic experience. He ran his entire campaign up until recently with like three or four randomly selected people.

Corey Lewandowski has probably never had a conversation with anyone without it ending in screams of anger or a knife fight. Hope Hicks is a riddle, a spokesperson who doesn’t actually speak all that much and there doesn’t seem to be a way to squeeze information about her about trivial issues like “where is Trump going next?” There’s Roger Stone, who left his paid job with the Trump campaign so he could devote more time to shilling for Trump on cable news.

None of these people sound like the secret sauce to a winning campaign and I suspect that Trump could have selected any group of three adult humans to do these same jobs with the same outcomes.

the previous lobbying efforts of paul manafort is going unremarked in most mass media. the guy was in bed with very corrupt dictators and 3rd world strong men, as well as deep in a scandal with hud in nj, but NOBODY is talking about this!

After spending that much time with greedy strongmen, shady grifters, and far right wing extremists, I can see why he would find Donald Trump a refreshing change of pace...

I swear, every time I see someone involved with the Trump campaign they look like villains in a shitty 90's cyberpunk movie.

You can tell this man - I’ll call him Cueball, since every Trump goon needs a nickname - you can tell Cueball has uttered “Shut the fuck up, Corey” more than once in his time during the Trump campaign.

This campaign doesn’t even attempt to sound professional. What’s with that unnecessary, childish shot at Clinton? This campaign has been a real treat.

The GOP has spent decades teaching conservative voters to hate whatever enemy was most ideologically convenient. Trump, unencumbered by ideology, has turned that training against them. By their logic, any display of respect for the enemy is a betrayal, and every display of contempt is an affirmation. Taking a shot at Clinton is just smart messaging. It’s not about who’s in Trump’s campaign. It’s not about what Trump believes. All that matters is the enemy.
