So she’s saying the rich black family shouldn’t live in a nice neighborhood?

Oh, you knew that was coming. Anything fancier than some refrigerator boxes in a parking lot is too fancy for the Obamas. And if they did go for the boxes, well, that’s unbecoming of the dignity of the President, how dare they!

Yup I’m wondering just how many were criticizing Bush for not living in a run down neighborhood as an example to the community.

Gorgeous house, just gorgeous. I love driving through the neighborhoods of the Rock Creek Park area; they are all amazing. That Kelly woman is an idiot, though. No fucking way is the Secret Service going to allow a former President to move into a struggling DC neighborhood, even if he wanted to (and really, why would he want to). So stupid.

Right? My first thought when I looked up the address on the map was “Oh, that’s as secluded as you can get around here. Good.”

But yeah, how DARE they not move into an apartment on my dilapidated street? Snobs.

I get the feeling that Obama could run into a burning building and singlehandedly rescue an entire Lamaze class full of women and fetuses, plus a basket full of adorable puppies, and certain people would still find something to criticize about it.

Imagine the good it could do a struggling DC neighborhood if [Obama] moved in and established himself as the figurehead of the community, showing his face at local spots and bringing a sense of excitement.

Jesus. Hasn’t the man done enough serving his country - and putting up with bullshit that no other president has dealt with, just because of the color of his skin - for eight years? Can we please just let him live where he wants to?

I don’t blame them for wanting a safe haven to spend the last few years before they become empty nesters. I’m sure that they feel like they owe their daughters some peace and quiet.

And even if he did choose a floundering neighborhood, it would become a gentrification nightmare. Many of the people who currently live there would be forced to move because they wouldn’t be able to afford it anymore.

Keep in mind the mid-century brick rancher my uncle lived in in Silver Spring sold for nearly 1 mil a couple years ago in a down market. It’s the area. Whoooo - pricey. I wish there was a virtual tour.

I would have guessed they’d go for something more modernist, but I’d have guessed wrong.

I have some real feelings on Joanna Gaines. She makes hard design choices that only look good with her overly decorated style. And every house looks the same which makes sense because you get work off previous work but it all looks literally the same. Theres no client personal touches. You know what looks like you’re lazy and there might have a pack of raccoons living in your tub if you have an ikea bed? Distressed whitewashed shiplap. And her cabinet choices always look weirdly big but also real cheap. And why open shelving? She isn’t leaving the antique washing pitcher and jug and two bowls. Thanks for half the storage and empty shelves or junky wall decor that is mismatched plates and stolen bar glasses.

The open shelves boggle my mind. How does anyone who has young children, or cats, or dogs, or drunk friends manage to store anything breakable like dishes on them? How does anyone who doesn’t have a maid manage to keep them from becoming stacked with clutter?

Honestly, did other presidents get judged for where they moved after they were done?

Let the Obamas live where they want.

Well, I definitely raised a skeptical eyebrow when George W Bush sold his fake ranch in Crawford as he left office.

But, I'm a partisan hack, so take that for what you will.

That house is crazy gorgeous. But who in the hell needs 9 bedrooms in their house?!? One for Mr. and Mrs, one for Sasha, one for Mrs. Robinson, one for Malia (I guess), a guest bedroom, and an office, and you still have 3 extra bedrooms!!! That’s crazypants!!!

Makes sense. I’m mostly thinking about all the other people before the Obamas and after the Obamas who have resided or will reside in this house. That’s a shit-ton of bedrooms.

Wait...don’t all presidents move to really nice neighborhoods and really nice houses when it’s all over? But the black president shouldn’t do that? Ugh.

Can we just focus on how it looks like a motherfucking castle? Cause who needs the White House when there’s a TURRET!!!

I wonder what’s in the turret though - in the photos none of the rooms have a curved corner. Maybe a winding staircase? That would be great. And there are little kids’ toys in a couple of photos: how much fun would it be to grow up in a house with a turret?

I lived in a house that had one of those and yes, the front stairs were in it. It was so disappointing. My brother and I thought, when we first saw it, that one of us would get a curved bedroom!
