who once urged that the hearts of gay auto-accident victims “be either buried or burned” because they are “unsuitable” for organ donation

Just for the record this is current US organ donation policy but if I just give up sex for a year I can donate blood, woohoo!

You’re lucky. I lived in England during the 80s, so I can’t ever donate blood in the US, because I might be a mad cow.

Just a head’s up that EatTheCheeseNicholson will happily accept a liver transplant from anyone, regardless of sexual orientation, once his own inevitably calls it a day.

Closer to the Russian version of O’Reilly’s show. Putin rivals Murdoch in his control of a far-flung international multimedia empire promoting right-wing authoritarianism.

The way a “chaotic France terrorized by migrants” is painted by the Kremlin reminds me a lot of how Fox News and other right-wing media like to paint Europe. The synthetic apocalyptic worldview these spindoctors implant then impacts the experience of life in their own country, leading to a certain Republican nominee to tweet “The American people are sick and tired of not being able to lead normal lives and to constantly be on the lookout for terror and terrorists!”

    Anybody surprised?

There simply is no trusting in Russians -they’re so dumb they automatically treat everybody else even dumber, and start hustling everybody around them. And the rest of the world watches in awe when said Russian makes a complete fool of himself.

But they’re fun to drink with, so not completely rotten people.

The real sad thing here, is that Le Petit Journal will soon be a thing of the past. Because Vincent Bolloré, the CEO of Vivendi, the company that owns Canal+ (the broadcaster of Le Petit Journal), does not like investigation journalism and political satire. He already sniped “Les Guignols de l’Info” the oldest satirical show on french TV, because it often poked the fun at his little friends in politics (including russian oligarchs). Come back in a year or two, and french TV will look exactly like Russian State TV.

It’s ironic that he fabricated this, when there are millions of people in France who actually think these things. Marine le Pen will make it to the second round of next year’s Presidential election- she won’t win, but she’ll taken 35-45% of the vote. Similar situations are arising all over Northern, Eastern and Central Europe; even nations famed for their liberalism (such as Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands) have resurgent far right movements. The far right party in Germany is at 15% in the polls and rising.

Pretty much the only major EU countries that seem to be avoiding this phenomenon are Spain and the United Kingdom.

UKIP in the UK falls in the same category of populist right wing nationalist anti-foreign-influence (EU or muslim) parties. They had >12% of the overal votes at the 2015 UK general election and >27% at the 2014 EU parliament election. Given the all or nothingness of the general elections and the resulting strategic votes, I think it’s safe to say their support is significantly larger than the result in the general election and in line with the support for such parties across Europe. The US isn’t all that different either, given the support for Trump.

Sorry, but UKIP aren’t far right. They’re a right wing populist party, yes, but you really can’t compare them with the Front National, the Sweden Democrats or whatever Geert Wilders’ party is called.
