    That’s so dope of her!

Semi related: All those people have their phones out, instead of watching and taking in the awesome moment. Just a quick thought, but that’s what I noticed looking at the photo. I usually wonder how many people who record or take a pic actually post it. All in all, great story!

They're filming what will likely be their last real moment with their friend, where she's still lucid and herself. I'd probably do the same thing.

I agree, it must be disconcerting as a performer to see, instead of fans or an audience, just a sea of iPhones and cell phone ready to post on social media for points.

God that was bitter sweet. I'm tearing up. Poor girl and great of Florence to do this. The girl has an amazing pitch as well. Doing second voice like that is not an easy task. Hopefully she recovers from whatever her ailment is, I am afraid to look for the info because she looks seriously ill.

Florence’s song goes, “and it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back, so shake him off.”

That hospice is where my father spent his last few days. What a wonderful place, staffed with caring and very knowledgable staff who know how to best care for the dying and their families. The contrast from his previous weeks in the hospital, even in basic medical care and medication, could not be greater, and the atmosphere and priorities were entirely different. This hospice is a deeply human place, unlike the hospital, where busy staff gave minimal attention, seeming to have already written him out of their to-do lists and, as we found out on entering the hospice, not meeting his needs for pain amelioration or even monitoring of basic body functions. In that bleak hospital room, family was grudgingly tolerated rather than welcomed. Transferring to the hospice was a revelation.

And then there were the hospice’s amazing range of volunteers that passed through or were available on call, all wonderful people giving of their skills, compassion and creative gifts to make this difficult family life milestone the best it could be.

I’m glad to read about this, glad it happened this way, glad this young woman is there. No one involved will ever forget it.

Yeah. As a hospital nurse, I can say that the way care is segmented and fractured is difficult. It’s hard to operate in two modes at once, and there is definitely a line between a sort of recuperative model where we’re going to get you back on your feet and out in the world and a palliative model where we’re just going to make you comfortable until your disease has run its process. When I pt transitions to comfort orders I definitely give medications in doses I would not feel comfortable giving if the pt wasn’t actively passing. I’m sorry your dad got caught in that gray space, but I’m glad he got into Christopher House toward the end.

Thank you for sharing this. I’m so sorry for your loss, but it is a comfort to know that this place exists and that this girl and others, like your father, can experience compassion and kindness there.

She will always be my absolute favorite. I’m so lucky to be able to go see her next month when she’s in Massachusetts! I always thought that you could tell from her music that she’s a kind soul.

Messy, awful waterworks. I was at that concert, and I have sent my patients to that facility. Such a fantastic show, and such a wonderful facility. I’m glad they could bring her to that poor young woman. Just getting all kinds of cooked up thinking about it.

What a beautiful and heartbreaking thing to see. I got to see Florence + The Machine this past fall and it was one of those once in a life time shows, even up in the nosebleeds. She has such a magnetic and captivating voice, and she conducted her concert with genuine joy to be performing. When someone dived on to the stage, she handled it with grace, hugged the stage climber, then she herself took off running into the audience and performed a song standing on a speaker in the middle of the audience. Created a total collective meltdown in the audience. Florence Welch is an incredible performer, and you get the sense that she is an amazing human being too.
