Trump Towers used to be the Bonwit Teller building, which was all beautiful art deco in design. There were murals inside, absolutely stunning pieces of artwork and architecture, that Trump promised the MET he would remove and give to them. He lied and he had the building destroyed with all the art inside.

He is a complete and total asshole.

Yes, he has extensive mafia ties. He also: employed illegal labor, ran pyramid schemes, endorsed and financed other pyramid schemes and ran a scam “university” where he employed convicted felons. He also files tons of frivolous lawsuits, abuses, degrades and insults women and lies about everything nearly continuously. He uses a girdle to hide his doughy belly, orange paint to hide his booze-ravaged face and sculpts his pitiful wispy hair to appear not bald. He is fake in literally every possible way.

  As for your ill advised ‘buying friends for the USA’ comment, it is almost always less expensive to reach an economic accomdation or bargain than to use force, for instance (to say nothing about the immorality of the loss of life that war entails). For instance, we could have put each and every family in both Afghanistan and Iraq in a $100,000 house with a car in the driveway for the money we pissed away dismantling those countries with high explosives, while murdering hundreds of thousands of civilians in cold blood.

  I pulled you out of the grey for being polite. Just think of all the things that could have been done for Americans if we had avoided going to war with Afghanistan and Iraq in the first place, never mind saving those unfortunate people the misery and destruction that has been caused. It saddens me that I see Hillary Clinton, during her time as a senator and secretary of state, as partly responsible for some truly disastrous foreign policy decisions. I may disagree with some of her decisions, but that does not make me a believer in “right wing bullshit.” Liberals are supposed to engage in critical thinking. I am an anti-war liberal. It would have been wonderful to vote for another liberal who didn’t have a hand in so many decisions I disagree with. That doesn’t make me a conservative and it doesn’t mean I will vote for Trump.

There wasn’t much of a choice back then whether or not to do business with the mob. They pretty much controlled construction trades, trucking, garbage removal and many other industries in NYC. You’d be hard pressed to find any developer in NYC from that period that didn’t have similar ties—unless you can show that trump really relished his mob connections and used them to intimidate his rivals.
