Remember when McCain was this kinda cool Republican who said things no other Republican would say? I liked that guy. Real shame him being eaten by that mama grizzly like that. Real shame.

I believe it was always an act. The man has only one love and that is for power at any cost.

Oh, he was never Liberal or anything close, but once upon a time he wasn’t afraid to work with them. Bush killed that in 2000, and his Zombie ran in 2008.

He’s “evolved” on nothing. He’s simply spent the last ten years sticking his finger in the wind and saying what is politically expedient. He seems to have had his soul replaced by one of Palin’s exorcisms.

In lieu of polling, he simply listens to the questions he’s asked on the Sunday cable talk shows to get a sense of the general political atmosphere. And his answer is always “bomb ______” (generally Iran).

      Ha! Well said -

Face the Nation, Meet the Press and ABC This Week, after all, have their finger firmly on the zeitgeist (if only of the same 15 talking heads they’ve cycled through for 20 years)!

It never fails to amaze me that politicians seem to forget that virtually everything they say or do in public is recorded and documented.

Since this is always brought up, let’s getting something straight. McCain has ever only been a “maverick” when it’s matched up with his his utter need for spite of someone who he felt personally wronged or stole something from him. Rarely has he ever been a maverick out of some legitimate and honorable set of principles which he couldn’t find in his party.

After Bush dirty tricked him out of the nomination, he spent the next years sniping at him. Not because he disagreed with him, really, but because he “stole” the nomination from him. After Obama, he’s spent the nearly eight years doing the same thing on various issues.

If you want to know what has driven McCain his entire life - and he admits as much in his books though he calls it something else - it’s spite, utter, unadulterated spite. He was a little privileged punk in grade school, he grew up to be a little privileged prig in adulthood. I will never take away his service; but his service in the military isn’t even half his story or at the heart of who he is.

This guy is more like Donald Trump than he will ever be able to admit.

As for the question “Isn’t he just like every other politician?” Well, that’s kind of the point. It’s the point because his entire brand is built on top of the premise that he’s an anti-politician. Not only is he just like every other politician, but better than almost any of them in the way he’s been able to craft his image.

Any politician who can paper over obvious spite, bitterness and pettiness to read like a principled maverick is a a fucking wizard of man.

Maybe you won’t, but Tim Dickinson will happily nuke that into the stone age.

“In one vital respect, however, the comparison is deeply unfair to the current president: George W. Bush was a much better pilot.”

It’s long, but as far as hit pieces go, worth a read.

As his views on immigration have evolved, so too have his ideas about copyright.

His views on asking a complete fucking dingbat to being Vice President have evolved too.

A Kirkpatrick spokesman said the campaign had not filed a copyright counter-claim with YouTube, and it is unclear how or why the subtitled version of the ad reappeared.

Ok, maybe I’m weird (spoiler alert, I am) but is this really a surprise? Someone who likes fair use when it benefits them, and hates it when it is used against them? Quelle surprise.
