As an ex record company guy (not Sony) I have to say how stunned I am at their short sightedness here. I realize Dr. doouche is a highly prized producer, but at a certain point the horrible press isn't worth it. This is absurd. You made your money; let her go.

You start to wonder how much of this is defending his contractual rights and how much just pure spite. Which does speak to the validity of her allegations about his being an abuser.

On Dr. Luke’s side, mostly spite (and some money) for sure. On Sony’s side, probably just money. I recall reading somewhere that his contract with them is up in 2017. If that’s true, then they could be waiting this out until then. Ending things with him today would likely be messy, cost quite a bit and lead to more legal battling.

I don’t think her mom knows what the constitution is or what alleged rights are being violated by a non-government individual.

      “judge lady”?

I know her mother is impassioned but I’m not sure she’s being helpful.

Her daughter was raped and is still being abused by the rapist, maybe don’t judge her and nitpick the way she’s saying “fuck you” to the broken legal system that has caused this situation? Just a thought.

Just another way for him to continue to abuse her. I DO wish other performers had the fortitude to boycott the event. And I wish people wouldn't watch it as well. But... $$$$$$...

I wish they would too. I think this is a case of an 800 lb gorilla sitting on a little person. I know Kesha is not everyone’s cup of tea but she has a right to pursue her career. Yeah Capitalism!

Jezebel legal beagles - I thought she wasn't permitted to release new work? How can cover performances be barred?

Not having the contract in front of me, there’s no way to know, but I suspect it may cover TV broadcasts regardless of what she’s singing.

Where was the mom when the daughter signed the iron-clad, very artist-unfriendly contract from a mega corporation? And why blame a judge who just practices existing law, however ‘unfair’ it might be? You can’t yell/cry/beg yourself to a ruling in your favor, or should that be a thing?

The judge could have granted Kesha an injunction and ended all of this. She didn’t do that because she believed the silly claim made by lawyers for both Luke and Sony that Kesha would be allowed to release music and have it promoted. It turns out that Kesha’s lawyer’s point that is was an elusive promise proved to be correct. This judge needs to be a lot more skeptical of the lies that get told to her by corporate lawyers. It’s only then she’ll be doing her job correctly.

Exactly. I’m wondering how preventing Kesha from performing isn’t viewed as hurting Gottwald’s case by his attorney’s.

Can they go back to the judge with this as new evidence and be like, uh...remember when you said the injunction was not necessary because she could still do xyz? Well, look, she wanted to do a fuckin’ cover song and they are stopping her, so...

I mean, they’re trying to crush her because she wouldn’t get in line and shut up about Dr. Luke. It’s very clear, and they are now no longer fulfilling *their* side of the contract! They are impinging on her career. It’s such bullshit, and would not be happening to a male artist.

What better way to show that you’re not abusive and manipulative than by refusing to let her go anywhere else and blocking her from doing anything on your label unless she does the one thing she absolutely does not want to do.
