Also, can someone explain why she would have theoretically said that order, and how the Secretary of State even gives that type of order? Was she even able to order anything?

Right? Last time I checked, the Secretary of State doesn’t get to give orders to the military. That said, the State Dept. clearly fucked in regards to the security of its people and should have had plans in place to prevent this from happening. But that’s far less dramatic of an accusation.

Of course not. You’re honing in on the funniest part of the conspiracy theory: it was designed to be anti-Obama, but when that failed to lead to an impeachment, it was just sloppily foisted on to Clinton with no changes.

The president could issue some sort of order along those lines (no that he would or did), but the Secretary of State could not.

But any search for logic in this jumbled mess will just lead to more hilarious nonsense.

Conspiracy theory level 2: Hillary did give the stand down order, but the GOP leadership is dropping it to give her a better chance of beating Trump in November.

Gowdy was originally a Rubio supporter, so there might be something to that theory. A quick Google search shows he’s mum on Trump but there’s been talk of being Trump’s AG. So on the one hand, he once preferred someone over Trump and thus may want Hillary elected just to see Trump lose. On the other hand, he possibly stands to gain from a Trump election.

I clearly spent too much time on this post.

On an unrelated matter, but also about the Republican Congress’ attempts to torpedo the Democrats, today there was some good news:

Today, the Senate UNANIMOUSLY confirmed President Obama’s appointment of Eric Fanning as Secretary of the Army - while they still haven’t even discussed Merrick Garland’s Supreme Court appointment. Fanning is openly gay, so a few years ago most of the Republican Senate wouldn’t have had him serve in the Army, much less run it!

I’m surprised Gawker isn’t also a Benghazi conspiracy theorist, considering how they’ve accepted Republican framing on every other Clinton nontroversy. Today they implied Clinton was retroactively bribed, and a couple weeks ago, a story referenced Whitewater credibly.

I’m just dying to learn the new details about Benghazi we somehow never heard in 33 witchhunt congressional hearings that all came up empty.

They can do this and vote to repeal Obamacare 60 times, then have the balls to campaign that government can’t do anything right.

I wish that some Democrat. Even a little guy in a gerrymandered 90% Republican district would just call this out. Make it her/his ONLY talking point.
“Would you give your car to mechanic, who thought fixing cars was a pointless endeavor? Would you get your haircut from someone who thought all grooming was superficial nonsense? Would you buy a hot dog from a vegan? So, why trust government to people who are fundamentally against it succeeding?”

Why, then do so many Republicans believe that Hillary Clinton told the military to “stand down” in Benghazi?

They don’t, Kevin McCarthy openly said this was a ploy to bring down her approval rating.

“Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable right? But we put together a Benghazi Special Committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping,” McCarthy said. “Why? Cause she’s untrustable. But no one would have known any of that had happened had we not fought and made that happen,”

(Him letting this slip is also likely the reason he didn’t become speaker.)

      Bless your heart.

The CIA’s Quick Reaction Force was ordered to “stand down.” This has been proved false by no less than the House Intelligence Committee and six other congressional investigations. No such order was given. The local CIA commander told his security contractors to not rush into the consulate site until local militia support and heavy weapons could be found. Even with that reasonable caution, the QRF was on-site 24 minutes after the first radio call for help. That is a near-miraculous and instantaneous response.

The Department of Defense could have changed the laws of space and time. Air Force bombers and National Missions Force personnel deployed to Sicily arrived well after the attack ended and after survivors had left Benghazi and were out of danger. Many pundits believe that if the president had snapped his fingers, fighter jets would have miraculously appeared over Benghazi, with adequate fuel, bombs, intelligence, and targets to stop.
