Celebrity Jeopardy questions are almost as dumbed down as high school Jeopardy questions and. yet. Michael Steele didn’t know PAKISTAN!!?!?!?!

It’s also interesting to see how celebrities who are famous for being “smart” react to being wrong, versus how “plebe” Jeopardy contestants react. The celebs clearly feel a lot more is at stake and get weirdly faux-humble (Frantzen) or defensive (Logan, Cooper) about what they get wrong. We get it Coop, you don’t speak Portugese. But the question is super basic.

In all my time watching Jeopardy I have NEVER seen anyone get as defensive with Trebek as Anderson Cooper did. Trebek chided Cooper for not answering in the form of a question (Cooper actually had) and Cooper aggressively shot back that he had. I turned to my partner (who is a teacher, like myself) and remarked that Cooper must have been an insufferable student.

ETA: And later this week Louis C.K. and Lewis Black are set to appear.

AND the charity Cooper was playing for was money for injured police dogs?!?!

Sorry, I had a LOT of feelings about this, apparently.

Are you upset that was his charity? It’s not the police dog’s fault human cops can be racist shitheads.

When I was a teenager, my mom used to try to get me to sign up for Teen jeopardy. I never did. I was convinced I’d end up forgetting everything I know and looking like an idiot.

    No ragrets.

Everyone who's been on the show says it's less about what you know (because lots of people know lots of stuff) and more about how well you perform under pressure, and how well you recover from a wrong answer. Which means I would verily suck at Jeopardy.

I agree completely with Michael Steele: the buzzer is a bitch. At least it was when I was a contestant earlier this year. Still, greatest experience of my life.

I thought it was hilarious when Steele couldn’t answer questions about the White House of The Chosen One, Ronny Regan. I expected Cooper to be able to do well on those political questions as well but he didn’t seem to know a lot of them.

Tonight we have Louis C.K and I want to know how you twist the definition of “power player” to include him. Dude is a very funny comic with a successful show and has done a lot of work trying to show men and white people who much privilege we have in life. But I don’t know if I would put him in the same level as Chuck Todd, whose TV show can make or break elections.

Normally I would agree, but considering all the supposed “smart” people are doing so poorly, I say he could easily be in their league. Also he probably won’t take it so hard when he gets one wrong.

How great would it be if he beat all these pundits? I would get great joy out of seeing that.

So I was at this taping, and let me tell you - it was BANANAS. They do a practice round before taping officially begins to get everyone acclimated to the format. It became painfully clear immediately that Lara Logan had no idea what Jeopardy was and had never seen the show before. While everyone else was super serious, sprinkling in only a few quips here and there, she was raising her hand to answer questions, buzzing in without knowing the answer, and cracking jokes. She was acting so erratically that my family and I were honestly asking each other if she was doing shots in the green room before taping began - that’s how crazy she was acting.

The audience of D.C. nerds was mummering with concern over the nonsense occurring on stage - there was a serious buzz in the room. Coops took some time to explain the format of the show to Logan (answer in questions, don’t make jokes, etc.). I think that it really threw him off because he was killing it in the practice round, then totally flubbed the actual game.

The whole thing ran over time by about an hour due to Logan’s shenanigans and was painful to witness. Silver lining is that now I can say I was an eyewitness to a Jeopardy taping that was probably as close to one of the SNL Ferrell sketches as anyone will ever see.

I was just thinking that Hillary Clinton would probably do great on Jeopardy. However you feel about her politics, you can’t deny that woman knows her shit and I really feel like she has a photographic memory.

I like plain old Jeopardy! If it’s Teacher’s Week, or Celebrity Week, or College Week, or Children’s Week, I skip it and always have. The difference now is that we have the Buzzr channel so instead of South Park reruns or flipping channels, I can turn into a 6 year old and watch old episodes of Press Your Luck! instead. RIP Peter Tomarkin.

Have you seen the Press Your Luck! documentary? Basically, an ice cream truck driver studied video of the show for months, memorized the board’s patterns, and left with a ton o’ cash.
