While at US university, I get job with Army doing “Red Team” work. We come up with scenarios for irregular attacks for training purposes. Interesting work consisting of many talented people like engineers, psychologists, sociologists, military people, etc.

One thing we researched was “soft targets”. Very depressing. Much like “force multipliers” there is multipliers that can make attacks worse. Infrastructure attacks are bad. Simple bomb in pipeline has long term effects.

Worst is attacks on children. For example, we would target municipality workers. You kidnap water worker family to get Chlorine gas truck for water. Take truck to school. Park it and blow it up. Easy to think of this stuff in room. It is just numbers. The idea is that area gets shutdown and region destabilized. Violence increases, government loses effective power. Area becomes recruitment pool for insurgents.

Then we start getting reports back that Sunni insurgents doing this in Shiite communities. I do job for three years until my drinking gets bad and I quit. Reading detailed reports on dead children haunt me to this day. How do you win war when people willing to gas children to death?

Thank you for that comment. It makes my reasons for drinking seem... inadequate.

I used to drive a Shaab, and I can confirm it was a piece of Shiite.

Finally, humor... thank you. Well, the lead comments were jokes, but not the kind you laugh at...

At least five people were killed in another attack on the city’s southern, Shiite-majorty[sic] Dora neighborhood.

More sectarian violence they’d probably just say it was ISIS. But in fact it is just extremist Sunni’s.

Something tells me these extremist Sunnis are, at the very least, sympathetic to ISIS. It’s likely they have some informal cooperation.
