I wonder how much a government contractor charged us for that floating bouncey castle. Meanwhile, I’m baking snickerdoodles twice a week to raise money for my local public school’s computer fund.

What other prison has this much extra money -and staff - to spare (the activitites, the equipment, the magazine itself!). It’s just perverse.

The real question here is: Where the hell did they find a copy of PageMaker 95? Man, the military can get anything!

Unlike Dabiq, the stylish, professional-looking monthly put out by one of the the Islamic State’s media offices, The Wire shares an aesthetic with a high school’s PDF newsletter.

When you’re backed by rich oil money, the funds for a nice “glossie” are always there.

He’s overselling how well-designed Dabiq is. It’s kind of a tacky mess at times. It did get less clumsy overall after a few issues, though.

By the way, the first issue passed a scene from The Lord of the Rings off as an super-inspiring image of a massed army of jihadists about to wage the final battle against the forces of apostasy and polytheism and whatnot, which was good for some laughs:

In any event, Dafuq is a much better read:

But Guantanamo Bay isn’t a summer camp, it’s a military prison

No, GTMO is a naval base and has been since 1903. In addition to the military there are dependent sand many civilian contractors residing there. Yes there is a prison on the JTF side but GTMO is and had been a home for many people for over a 100 years. And there is not always a lot to do there and only 1-2 flights to Florida a week. And limited cable and slow internet.

You may also be interested in the Gazette, another weekly magazine from the non prisoner side. A lot of good articles except for that one time when the writer suggested mixing bleach and ammonia to kill mold.

Not contractors, active duty personnel. Which means they are much cheaper than you and can be made to do whatever other work there is, whenever, wherever.

“A general interest magazine put out by a prison camp at which abuses both documented and unknown have taken place...”

The general view of Gitmo is probably negative enough that we don’t need to resort to logically fallacious statements about the place, no?
