Rowanne Brewer Lane, the former model

Yes, okay, but what kind of model, exactly?

what’s unclear is who cares. Not Trump supporters

I’m perptually confused by this line. Who is writing for Trump supporters? Who is trying to win Trump supporters? Who should be trying to win his cult followers aside Trump himself? No one with any kind of seriousness is writing mainstream news stories to convince Trump voters of jack shit, nor should they be.

Seriously, why does this refrain keep coming up? It’d be different were is obvious his support was well over 50%, in which case you’ve exhausted all other options and its literally your last choice. But, given that it’s not close to that, what responsible opposition would (and should) be wasting their time trying to change his supporter’s minds?

That’s a great point. No one is writing long think-pieces defending Trump’s rhetoric, because that’s impossible and would be dismantled immediately with facts. Trump’s gaining support by having an enemy. People writing against him gives him a bunker mentality and a victim complex that he can then pass on to his supporters. See! they’re attacking me! they’re angry which means that i’m doing things right!

Translation of Reince Preibus’remarks: “Oh, it’s just Donald being Donald...boys will be boys, ya know.”

What Reince is thinking: “Lord, what have I done to deserve this??“

I’m sure Paul Ryan is relieved he didn’t completely throw his support behind Trump last week, no matter how “encouraged” he was after the “meeting”.

Reince Priebus is pretty much fucked, though.

This becomes much more difficult for the RNC when so much of their hit pieces on Hillary Clinton are labrynthine attacks on her based on what her husband did with women. Trump has already started doing this (“Hillary was an enabler of his abusive behavior towards women”).

It’s a ridiculous thing with which to attack her; to a large extent, her “stoic wronged wife” role helped get her into the Senate in 2000. So it’s like the pot calling [not the kettle, but] the potholder black.. It makes no sense.

The thing is, I believe she didn’t think he was being demeaning, but it’s bc she’s an idiot and probably was more interested in the fact that Trump chose her!

My eyes are rolling so hard at this.

Who died and made you queen of what is offensive? If the woman to whom the behavior is directed is flattered and not offended, you should probably take your judge-y, smarter-than-thou nose out. What IS actually offensive and demeaning to women is to decide that they are "too stupid" to even know when they are being offended, in your, never humble opinion.

Of course, women have every right to self-determine themselves into whatever situation they want. But the more aware among us will still flinch when we hear it. Like a family member of mine: her husband is a big old blowhard who has very definite ideas of how women should look and behave. She's told me that she only watches the news channels her husband says are OK and doesn't read much because he doesn't like to see her with her "nose stuck in a book." And she's perfectly happy with that, because she wants to see him happy. On one level, it's her decision and who am I to be yet another person who tells her what to do? On the other, it's also borderline abusive (or at the least, highly controlling) on his part.

Trump demeaning to women? I’m shocked. Shocked I tell you! Also, not going to lie, some men and women enjoy being demeaned. They are submissives, and like not having power/agency. Nothing wrong with that, if that is what you like from your interactions with people/sexual encounters. Takes all kinds to make the world go round.

“That this particular woman took his behavior as a compliment does not negate how offensive it was.”

It kind of does. She wasn’t offended. Why wouldn’t her opinion matter? Because he objectively offered her a bathing suit? What a monster.

The individual’s response is subjective but that isn’t the point of the article. The point is that he is completely unable to distinguish between the value of a woman and her appearance and that in itself is offensive to an entire gender.

Thats the point: this instance is poor evidence for that argument. It’s a fine argument, and good evidence for it is abundant. But this evidence is bad evidence. Good argument made badly is bad argument; this should be tough to fuck up, but here we are.

And I change into one, and the part where I went back out to the pool party and he made a comment now that’s a stunning Trump girl right there, I was actually flattered by.

Obviously he was referring to her intellectual and conversational abilities. Why does the media have to twist everything into a negative?

On the one hand, if I were her I would also be annoyed at feeling used in a “hit piece.”

On the other hand, she acknowledged the facts are accurate. If a reader of said facts views them in a negative light, then all she can really complain about is that her take on appropriate male behavior is different than what many readers of said behavior is. If she is fine with that fact, then that’s fine, but there is nothing wrong with NYT’s story.
