2008 Sarah Palin was an underqualified idiot, and it showed quite often in unscripted moments, but when given time to prepare, she seemed really polished and delivered talking points, and especially applause lines, really well. Remember her convention speech? Her VP debate performance.

2016 Sarah Palin still suffers from the notable liability of being an idiot, but even in prepared speeches in front of friendly crowds she comes off as completely incomprehensible. The next time she says a sentence that makes sense will be the first time in about 5 or 6 years. What sane candidate would attach himself to that rambling mess?

It’s also just bizarre, because Palin doesn’t bring anything to the ticket that Trump doesn’t already have. She performed quite poorly on the few occasions she’s stumped for him so far, too.

It makes sense. He needs to pick someone who won’t be seen as smarter or more experienced than him. Someone who will suck up to him because he’s their gravy train. And someone who won’t cringe at his buffoonery. Also, I’m sure he would like to fuck her.

Not only that: it’ll improve Trump’s appeal to the Christian nutjob wing of the party. And I doubt anyone with any designs on a future White House run would want to run as Trump’s veep. She’s almost perfect for the job. I’d take 50-50 odds on it.

I’ve been saying from the start that Palin was gonna be his VP. It makes too much sense for it not to happen.

The best part was watching all the Fox News men tell us how sexist we were being for suggesting Sarah Palin was not capable of being Vice President/President. I still get a laugh at that Dick Morris video calling liberals “sexist” over that shit.

So Trump/Palin would be by far the dumbest, least qualified ticket put forth by any serious party in American history, right? What would the closest historical comparison be?

If Trump wins the presidency with Palin as his VP, I will not only open my house in Canada to those fleeing the US, but I’ll pick them up at the border myself.

Thing is, this is where the establishment can make its stand. While it would fly in the face of precedent, the convention is under no obligation to rubber stamp the nominee’s selected running mate. There is no binding of delighted in that vote.

It’s not unprecedented. In 1944, FDR and Henry Wallace were running for re-election. The Democratic Party establishment knew how sick Roosevelt was and didn’t want someone as left-wing as Wallace in the VP slot. So it took all night at the convention, cajoling and prodding delegates to oust the sitting vice president from his rightful position on the ticket, and replace him with Harry S. Truman. The rest is history.

Unlike many previous election cycles, VP choices are especially important this time.

If the GOP can get an establishment candidate on the ticket as VP, they will then try every effort to turf Trump via impeachment or any other method and: ta-da! Insert their establishment choice as POTUS. By choosing Palin, Trump actually does a great deal to nullify this - as undesirable a nominee as he is, the airhead Palin in the White House is a scarier proposition to establishment types than the human apricot.

Same goes for the Democratic side: despite Hillary’s supporters’ refusal to accept that their candidate could be hampered by an indictment or any number of potential scandals popping up, their candidate is very vulnerable, thus making the veep slot again, very important.

Not to be ageist (I am “an old” myself), but both Trump and Clinton are nearly 70. Ask anyone you know in their 70s if they could handle a job like that (the answer will be “No way!”). While it’s unlikely either would drop dead in the next 4 years, well, Reagan was 70 when he was elected and history has borne out just how oblivious he was (and how much was going on around him to which he was clueless); but he did have a nap every afternoon, and stopped work (no matter what was going on) at 6pm.
