Her supervisor mocked workers’ requests. She reports that he said, “I told you… that you shouldn’t drink so much water and eat so much food so that you don’t need to ask to use the bathroom.”

    Fuck these fucking people.

Is it just me or are the people who are the most inhumane in this world not the CEOs or the workers, but the first few layers of management in most businesses?

They aren’t educated or smart enough to act as if and to have some sort of clue about how fucking lucky they are so as to at least hide their contempt between a veneer of civility, but they also aren’t deep enough in the trenches with the masses to suffer the same indignities.

It’s the end result of a Gresham Dynamic. Basically only tremendously shitty people can become those supervisors.

The CEOs know how the sausage is made, literally. They set the conditions that the supervisors have to meet, and then pretend that they can’t fathom how the supervisors manage to squeeze more production out of their workers. Management and supervisors cooperate in the abuse of these workers, and given that we know what goes on in these places, so do we.

Tyson is so huge, they’re really hard to avoid, and since people can’t fathom quitting chicken, I think the solution is to allow more people to raise their own chickens. Our bylaws changed recently to allow up to 8 chickens per yard in town, so torture-free chicken is much more available locally.

No, I don’t live there, although I think they’re doing a pilot project with backyard chickens there.

Deep fried long pig? What are you some kind of barbarian? Slow roasting is the only way to prepare a poultry factory worker, they are way to stringy and tough for any other method.

This won’t stop 1st worlders from stuffing the McNuggets down their gullets. Not the chicken torture, not the worker torture. McNuggets are a god given right, up there with guns and crop tops.

I think we’re all aware of the deplorable conditions at pretty much any manufacturing plant for electronics in China but that hasn’t stopped anyone from buying or using their cell phones/ ipads/ laptops. Let’s not even talk about the places most of the clothes at the mall are made. We care about it for it second, but if it involves actually paying more for a product or inconveniencing ourselves in any way we could care less.

This story illustrates exactly why Tyson tries to hire only illegal immigrants for these jobs. They are so afraid of being deported, they would never talk. l

Companies like Tyson, Cargill, etc. routinely literally fucking advertise jobs in places like southern Mexico and will pay for workers to get bussed up and they set them up in shitty housing to work at these plants.

Then ICE raids them, deports and punishes those imported workers and nothing ever happens to the companies that brought them there.

      USA! USA! USA!

I didn’t think people would be that stupid and cruel, but I saw the exact same story on Facebook....

Yeah, they are exactly that stupid and cruel. One was even saying people should “grow up” and “act like adults” and just take the horrid conditions of the job. No empathy, no reasoning: “Well, if an individual quits and moves on, there will always be others. Why do you support this again?”

It was amazing to me. I really didn’t think until that moment that “normal” people really are so fucking callous. Not serial killers. A great proportion of humanity.

It really comes down to people looking down at workers like this as less than human, either because of elitism or racism or both. There’s no other explanation.

I mean, there’s room for debate on the question of what the minimum wage should be, or what benefits employers should have to offer, and all of that. The idea that employers should have to allow bathroom breaks is not a liberal or conservative viewpoint, it’s fucking human decency.

I also guarantee that anyone taking the position that this isn’t a big deal has never had to work in such a dehumanizing environment.

Tyson - Feeding you like family.

I dunno, my mom makes a pretty good electric-bath-and-excrement chicken that she force feeds down my gullet for Sunday dinner. Not sure if Tyson can do better.
