It’s so disappointing to me that actresses that I otherwise respect/admire keep working with a man that molested his daughters - and it’s been public knowledge for decades. It feels like a kind of betrayal.

I’m still pissed about all the actresses that gave a standing ovation at the Oscars to Polanski. His rape of a 13 year old has been public knowledge for decades.

The number of people who haven’t actually read any of the court documents or the statement of the prosecuter, and yet STILL claim to know what went down (and are 100% wrong), is astounding - it’s a definite credit to Allen’s publicity machine.

However, the way Ronan Farrow addressed the issue - as a lack of questioning in journalism - was smart, because it takes away the “he said/she said” aspect of this situation and puts the spotlight where it belongs: on journalistic integrity. I am impressed with the number of media sources taking up the ball since the OpEd was published.

Isn’t it, though? Vanity Fair has an excellent article on the case titled “Ten Undeniable Facts About the Woody Allen Sex-Abuse Allegations” which just blows the the lid off of the bullshit Allen and his team put out there. The same article also had a link to the judge’s scathing 33 page decision in the custody case, but unfortunately the link is now broken. I did read the entire decision, and it’s such an eye-opener. Too bad Allen’s PR firm that judgement is there for all time for anyone who wants to read it.

Here’s a HuffPost article on the judge’s decision

Blake Lively can not criticize or comment on woody allen, she needs the work goddamn it. I mean how long can the deadpool money last?! Her website didn’t make it. She was looking into getting a job at jamba juice but the other applicants were way more qualified. SHE NEEDS THIS GUYS.

I can’t believe I’m doing this, but her full comments were actually pretty good. The basic run down was “I don’t find rape jokes funny, especially when made by an MC who joked about rape and Hitler in the same three minutes” and “I don’t want to comment on something I haven’t read yet, since I’ve been busy all day and it was only published this morning”. Those are absolutely statements I think most people would make. Now, if someone asked her why she took on the role in the first place, I’d be happy to discuss her statement, but no one did, because no one asked Blake Lively any questions at the press conference before the screening. (Which says a lot about Blake Lively’s career at the moment.)

I don’t care for Blake Lively but as you say her full comments make the overall tone a bit easier to swallow. However I would put forward that what then MC said was not a “rape joke” so maybe she could have toned down the high horse bit somewhat.

Also, perhaps it is “dangerous to factor in things you don’t know anything about” but I am pretty tired of these people batting their big eyes and acting like gosh they sure aren’t qualified to have an opinion about this! when it suits them.

It’s possible to not believe the accusation that Woody Allen molested Dylan Farrow. I happen to believe the story — but there is no real proof. It’s her word against his.

What is absolutely true is that Ronan Farrow and Soon-Yi Previn are brother and sister. Ronan was born to Mia Farrow and Soon-Yi was adopted by Mia Farrow.

Woody Allen is father to Ronan Farrow and husband to Soon-Yi Previn. (They are married, right?)

From Ronan Farrow’s point of view — his father married his sister and in the process abandoned him. (Ronan also believes his father molested his other sister.)

In short, Woody Allen married his son’s sister and in the process terminated his relationship with his own son. That alone is contemptible and it doesn’t even include the very likely probability that he also molested his daughter (one of his son’s other sisters.)

He also, according to the custody decisions, showed absolutely no remorse about it or even understanding as to why it would be upsetting to his children (two of whom he was literally adopting at the time he started his relationship with Previn) that he would be having an affair with their sister.

This. He is, at best, a predatory, narcissistic, callous creep of epic proportions; at worst he is a fucking child molester. Either way, not the kind of person I would knowingly work with under any circumstances.

I know it gets said with regularity any time Woody Allen is even mentioned around here, but I really don’t get why people think his films are so genius. It’s nearly always a story of a young, hot woman falling in love with an older neurotic guy. It’s beyond unrealistic. I always thought Twilight was creepy because Stephanie Meyer seemed to feel like Edward Cullen was her own personal wish fulfillment. It seems like Woody’s got the same problem, but for some reason people think his version is charming.

Even if he wasn’t a despicable human being, his movies really don’t appeal to me.

“I think any jokes about rape, homophobia or Hitler is not a joke,” Lively said on Thursday when asked about the incident by a Variety reporter. “I think that was a hard thing swallow in 30 seconds. Film festivals are such a beautiful, respectful festivals of film and artists and to have that, it felt like it wouldn’t have happened if it was in the 1940s. I can’t imagine Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby going out and doing that”

That is Palin jr. word salad. Someone gets confused about plural vs. singular, huh? Also, who the fuck is nostalgic for the 1940s?!?!

Yeah, never mind that Bing Crosby beat the shit out of his kids and was generally a miserable bastard. Given that this is a woman who has extolled the classiness of plantations, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that she’s nostalgic for the 1940's. What a freaking dingus.

Serious question. Aren’t pedophiles serial abusers? In other words, if Allen abused his young daughter - and I’m not saying he didn’t - wouldn’t there be other people coming forth to say, “Yes, he abused me as a child, too.” I want to believe Farrow, et al, but everything I’ve read about pedophiles indicates that it’s seldom, if ever, a one-time thing.

Odds are that his daughter wasn’t the only one abused by him, but to accuse a man with so much power and supporters of rape without hard evidence (which rape/abuse victims very rarely have) would put a lot of heat on you.

Not always, sometimes its specific to a particular child (some parents will abuse one of their children and not others). There is absolutely no doubt that he was intensely and inappropriately obsessed with Dylan regardless of whether the abuse happened, as he was in therapy for it, so it could have been specific to her.

Dart is excellent at her job. It’s a shame one of her clients continues to behave in a way that requires such skillful image alteration.

I used to love his films, but can no longer watch the work of a dirty old pervert, who thinks his children are his sexual property.

I think I would have more respect for someone who came out and said “I really wanted to work with Woody Allen and I don’t think his personal life matters,” than all of this “we don’t know, we can’t judge” nonsense.

I don’t really agree with the idea that the art stands on it’s own but it’s intellectually honest. Trying to convince yourself that Woody Allen is someone to be concerned about or doing the mental gymnatics to down play it makes you look worse.
